how can add access level to userGroup?

Hi
Is there any php function to add joomla userGroup to some ACL? i can not find anything.I want something such as function when we want add user to joomla group.

I did not find much documentation on the subject. Perhaps https://api.joomla.org/cms-3/classes/Jo ... _setGroups may help?

what is your advise about using direct query to database according joomla functions? is it final way or is there a better way?joomla master please help...
