Want to add a restricted user group?

Post by tezzerp » Wed Nov 14, 2018 6:26 pm

Hello
I have a Joomla 3.9 site fully built and up and running.
About 50% of the site is for members only (registered user account)
What I would like is to create a sub member account where the user would see about 75% of the member content
What is the easiest way to do this?
Thanks
Terry

Create a User Group with Registered as Parent
e.g. Members

Create a view/access level
e.g. Members view
In that user group select Registered and Members

Registered users will see Menus etc set at Registered and Members
Members users will only see Menus etc set at Members

Thanks for the reply. I can't get to quite to work.

I have done what you have said, but when I log in as a Member, I also see the registered user content. What have I done wrong?
Thanks
Terry

In Users >>> view level ... Registered ... you have selected Members user group. That is why Members user Group can see Menu items set to Registered.

No I haven't done that.
I have now sorted it though. I made the parent of Members "Public" and then allowed Members to Login
So now I have a sub group sitting between Public and Registered Users.
Registered users can see everything, whilst Members can only see "members" items.
All seems to work thanks

Making the Parent Public instead of Registered would not prevent Members from seeing Registered view/access items. The User Group Parent has nothing to do with what that group can see. It is only Permissions that are inherited not Access levels. The Members Group MUST have been selected in the Registered Access level to see the Register item. You have unselected it as well as changing the Parent of the group and wrongly attributed the User Group Parent as the problem.

Its a bit confusing as my terminology on the site is different. I have Registered Users, and I wanted a Restricted User, only seeing a percentage of the Registered User Content.
(I think its simple when its the other way round)
I needed a sub group, rather than an as it were Gold Member group.
What ever I have done now, it seems to work 100%.
My Registered user access group says - Registered , Managers , Super Admin
My Restricted user access group says - Restricted , Registered . Managers , Super Admin
So now if I mark a menu / article as Restricted - every one can see it, if an article is marked Regsitered then restricted can't see it.
