Developing MVC Component

I've installed Joomla! 3.7.2 and am following the documentation for Developing an MVC Component (J3.x). I've completed through #8 - Basic backend, but all I can see is "Hello World!" - none of the columns or checkboxes.

The database is good and the pages and hierarchy match. At one point I even downloaded the completed archive and linked it to a menu item to see if I was doing something wrong, but still - all I get is Hello World!.

Has anyone else had this problem?

I'd appreciate any advice. If this is not the right forum section to post this question, please let me know which is. Thank you very much!
