Registration issue in Joomla 3.2

Post by profinvent » Fri Nov 08, 2013 6:41 am

Hi, there is an issue in Joomla 3.2 with the Joomla registration when Strong Password Encryption is disabled. The account is created, but the password does not match with the password sent in the registration email. After enabling the Strong Password Encryption is starts working.

This is a serious problem, preventing new users from logging in.

With Strong Passwords set to 'on' in User - Joomla! the generated passwords are 64 characters in length. With it set to off, they are 32 characters (the same as older versions and Mambo). I created 2 new users with the same password, one with strong passwords on and the other with strong passwords off. The verification system worked OK, but unfortunately I can't log in as either of these users if I have Strong Passwords set to the way it was when the user was created. However, the user created with Strong Passwords on (i.e. a 64 character password) can log in with Strong Passwords set to off. (as an earlier poster found).

There's an inconsistency somewhere in the way the password encryption is handled. Be good if this was sorted soon!

I found a fix online:

http://alterbrains.com/blog/100-joomla- ... m-solution

Very frustrating for my client... I insisted he was doing something wrong (i.e. adding typos when creating the user accounts) but I finally tried myself and couldn't log in with my new test account. I just updated the code as described in that blog post and all seems okay now. I hope this is fixed in the next release! It still doesn't appear in the "Joomla 3.2.0 FAQ" where known issues are posted:
