Problems with links in Joomla 3.x

Post by premteem » Mon Nov 02, 2015 2:22 pm

I have updated the website from version 2.5.7 to 3.x of Joomla and and I am experiencing a problem with the links in general. For example, there are some articles that have the 'read more' option and when I click the 'read more' button it does not show the specific article in a separate landing page but it just appears below other content on the homepage. I have been experiencing same problems with other links as well. Any ideas how can I solve this?

Thank you for your contribution. But since I have already developed my whole site using a theme called Rt_afterburner2 I cannot change it. Is there any possibility that I can fix this problem without having to change the template?

Yes you can ... you change the default Template in the Template manager

I did not say fix the problem by changing the default Template I said "Test with Protostar as default Template"

To "Test with Protostar as default Template" you view the site before switching the default Template. Then in another tab/window login the backend and change the default Template. You can then copy the url of the first tab/window into a 3rd tab window.

In other words if you don't see the menu(in the front end) after changing the default Template ... it is still possible to view the page so that you can test the readmore link.

----

A second method of testing is to rename the /templates/Rt_afterburner2/html folder

---

The whole point is to see if the problem is with a Template override in Rt_afterburner2.

Thank you again for your reply. I've tested everything as you asked but the same problem is happening with the 'read more' links. Any other suggestions? This is the website's link

This is not an issue with Joomla links. You simply need to create a menu item that points to the category where your articles are located. This menu item can be published or unpublished. See the description below from Rocket Theme forum.

"if you are using roktabs for example and find that the roktabs readmore links open your articles inside the frontpage you need to create a new menu item for the roktabs articles. go to your menu manager > mainmenu > NEW > category blog layout... then name your new menu item for example 'my roktabs articles blog' and select the same category of articles that is being used in your roktabs module settings. after saving you have now a new menu item where those roktabs articles will open.

you can now configure through the module manager which modules you would like to be displayed or not displayed in those new pages. if you do not wish to show this new menu item, you can move it out of the mainmenu to a newly created menu which you could call the 'hidden menu'. so go to your menu manager and create a new menu called hidden menu. then move the 'my roktabs articles blog' menu item from the mainmenu to the new 'hidden menu'. then go to the module manager and open the module for the 'hidden menu'. make sure it is set to published, but do not assign it to any pages. that should be it.

Thanks a lot for your response. We tried each step but still we are encountering the same problem. We found a solution that is copying each article's link manually and creating the read more button manually by pasting the link for the specific article. However, we got a lot of articles which is impossible to apply that solution manually. Do you have any other idea what the problem might be? Thank you!
