Issue with "Users: Viewing Access Levels"

Post by sokrates_mx5 » Mon Sep 06, 2021 2:56 pm

I came across an issue with Users: Viewing Access Levels yesterday. When trying to save a Level Title as a copy, then I got the following message:
Error
Save failed with the following error: Level with the name "Registered" already exists.
When trying to delete a Level Name, then I get the following messages:
Warning
You can't delete the view access level '3:Special' because it is being used by content.
Error
You can't delete the view access level '3:Special' because it is being used by content.
The web site is running Joomla 3.10.1.

When testing on another web site also running Joomla 3.10.1, then the above behavior is repeated. This make me believe it might be caused by a bug in Joomla. I can't say for how long this issue has been present, since this has been untouched for some time.

Those are not errors of Joomla. They are your errors because you tried to duplicate an existing level and because you are trying to delete a level that is required.

I tried to make a copy of Registered. The usual behaviour of Joomla is that the copy should have been saved as Registered (2). What seems to happen is that when saving as a copy, then the copy is not being renamed and therefore generate an error, which makes it impossible to save and create a copy.

Screenshot of where it says to copy the Access Level please. I see no such option.

Ahhhh, I was looking at J4.

If you notice when saving Menu items, Articles etc. It's the Title Alias' field that is altered. As the Access Level Title has no 'Title Alias' field then you need to rename the Title before saving as copy.

I'm still with J3, because I use extensions that are not compatible with J4 yet.

Yes, I'm aware it's the title alias field that is altered and has to be unique, but the Title field is also altered by adding (2) by the end. I just expected that the behaviour was going to be similar when saving an access level as a copy. Having to change its name before saving it as a copy do not follow the same logic.
