- At a JUG,
- At a JoomlaDay, or
- At a Joomla Learning Partner
The local JUG around here is basically defunct, according to the organizer. He told me that even when it was going, however, they did not offer the certification exams.
As a working developer in a one-man shop, I really don't have time to travel out of town to a JoomlaDay - I have clients to take care of. One day I'd love to go - but they're never near me, and travel isn't cheap.
Last but not least, I was unable to find a list of JLPs, although I did see an article about one in the Netherlands. I'm in the US, so that obviously won't work for me.
According to the main page of the Certification Program:
That's all well and good - but at this point, certification is essentially non-existent and wholly impractical for almost everyone. Which probably explains why, although Joomla is so widely used, there are only 160 certified users. If you truly want to make certification "ensure the competence of Joomla! professionals" this will have to change. The Joomla! Certification Program has been created to ensure the competence of Joomla! professionals through documented measurement of skills and knowledge. The program aims to establish a certain standard whilst promoting a qualified workforce.
Professional certification can play an important role in the decision of a company or business owner when hiring skilled individuals for specific roles.
