Installing Joomla 4.0 alpha 11 failes

Post by deroderuiter » Sun Nov 17, 2019 12:54 pm

I have tried to install Joomla 4.0 several times but I never succeeded in getting it running. After filling in the necessary fields I always get this error:

Service Unavailable
The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later.

I use:
  • Database Type mysql
  • Database Version 10.2.13-MariaDB
  • PHP Version 7.3.6
Does anybody know what could cause this problem?

I've spoken to my host. The problem they found is this:

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 536870912 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 1952738704 bytes) in [my-domain]/public_html/libraries/vendor/joomla/database/src/Mysqli/MysqliStatement.php on line 456

I really don't know how to solve that

According to those numbers, your webhost allows you a maximum memory size of 512Mbytes to run "everything". OK, you follow that? The next part of the problem statement is puzzling: "something" is trying to obtain a total of 1.8Gbytes of memory!

In all my life building websites, I have never come across a situation that has tried to chew more than 0.5Gbytes of memory, let alone nearly four times that amount. So there's something very suspicious going on here.

I don't know anything about installing J! 4.0 alpha (simply because I do not test alpha versions of J! in any case). I don't know anything about J! 4.0 beta (because it's too new and I haven't read any news about whether it works or not). In other words, I'm not the best person to ask for help with J! 4.0 at this time.

I have installed Alpha-11 without that problem. That consumption of memory is not normal.

Thank you for your reactions. I removed the installation. I will give it a try again when there is a newer and more stable version.
In the mean while I installed it on my PC using xampp. There it runs without any problem

Wamp is imho more flexable for localhost than xamp. With Wamp you can change the php version on the fly.
