Cassiopeia width and customization

Good morning community, sorry to bother you. I'm recreating my current website for Joomla 4 in local mode (Xampp), and I've been trying to edit the Cassiopeia theme, but I found that it's not very customizable. It catches my attention, because Joomla 4 has been in development for a very long time.
Currently the template occupies the entire width of the screen, and I'd like it to occupy only 80% because I need a cascading image to be seen in the background.
I already created my user.css file and started testing, but I can't find a way.
Was anyone able to make those kinds of changes successfully? Any information or suggestion will be more than welcome. Thank you very much in advance!
