password access for article

Post by jrumford22 » Sun Jun 13, 2021 7:54 pm

Hi - I am looking for a way to control who can see an article during the author review and approval period. The authors and editors need to see the article online, but the general public should not be able to. The authors are not allowed access to the articles in Joomla (too likely to mess up files).

I considered setting a <noindex> comment but I am not sure where to do that or if it would work in Joomla 3.9.21.

I also considered making the category (all articles would fall into the same category during the review process) registered. Would that mean that each author would have to register? This is a little unwieldy because some articles have a lot of authors (science articles).

In an older version of Joomla there was a password plug in I was able to use - no longer in use for Joomla 3+ - but I haven't been able to find a new one.

Any good ideas for me? I appreciate your help.

Acess control seems to be based on a known set of readers. If possible - I want to avoid building a log in for the many authors who will be proof-reading the articles. This is why I thought a password might be easiest.

I would reiterate @gws advice - use the ACL to control your users access to the site, and to what they can create, edit or publish.

I know of no plugin (past or present) that can control such content creation access other than the ACL - Joomla has always had this in some form or another, and it as evolved over time.

Hi,

Check this article about "Access Control List" https://docs.joomla.org/J3.x:Access_Con ... t_Tutorial. It might solve your problem.

How would you control that without a control system or maybe use Regular Labs conditional content? If you would like more control you can use ACL manager component that is good with overview/demo you can test https://extensions.joomla.org/extension/acl-manager/

If you search for ACL Randy Carey Joomla "role based access control" he explain more too ( https://magazine.joomla.org/authors/rcarey ) he doing some overrides examples that could be customisable too
