J4 Menu Site Modules, advanced tab bewiderment

Post by Nickinamillion » Fri May 20, 2022 12:09 pm

Hi
The Site Modules > Menu > Advanced [tab] has changed since J3, it now has some new and some of the old items.
As in J3, I can put a new class or ID in the appropriate boxes and these will appear in the frontend HTML code, in the <ul> tag in this example. However, if I type some bootstrap 5 in the "module class" text field, nothing appears in the front end, this is not what I expected. What is happening, what should happen, what am I doing wrong and how should I use this box?
Very grateful for any help.
Nick

If I enter mt-5 in the Module Class field it works fine. Perhaps you could tell us what Bootstrap class does not work.

Thank you very much for your response Mr ceford. However, I am still a little bewildered, please read on.
I put (space) nav nav-tabs into the "Module Class" field and found that it did not show in the front-end inspector and did nothing. When I put the same line in the "menu class" field it worked as intended (more or less!).
So what is "Module Class" for? It no longer seems to do anything, "Menu class" appears to have taken over it function. When I migrated from J3 to J4 text that was in "Module Class" still functioned BUT after deletion and fresh text added it no longer had the desired effect, the text needed to move to "Menu Class" in order to work!
In addition. Joomla 4.1 has rearranged the listings under the Advanced Tab of the Module > menu, it now has 3 extra things, Menu Tag ID, Menu Class and Target Position. Menu Tag ID seems clear, Menu Class seems to be a better description of Module Class (suffix), then Target Position, what is that one for?
I think that there is some stuff from J3, a bug, am I wrong?
I hope that I have described things clearly, it is difficult and that I have avoided the typos this time.

I put in a value in all fields and they all turned up in the source code on different elements.

Well, I really do not understand what I am doing wrong, I can never find any result from putting something in the Module Class field. What tag does it put it In? Thank you very much for your response bye the way, you are heroic.

Code: Select all

<div class="sidebar-right card ModuleClass">
<ul id="200" class="mod-menu mod-list nav MenuClass">
The Module Class is added to the begining of the module.

ID and Menu Class is added to the UL element.

Sorry, that simply does not happen with me.

Code: Select all

<div class="collapse navbar-collapse" id="navbar109">
  <ul class="mod-menu mod-menu_dropdown-metismenu metismenu mod-list nav nav-tabs" id="id-200">
Im using Joomla 4.1.3, XAMPP.
It's the Module Class that is the problem, I put moduleClass200 in the field. Does not show in the inspector.
I have attached a pic of the backend.
Thanks for helping me.

I have had an aha moment, well I thought it was. Turns out that the Module Class field does not work in my blog menu in Cassiopeia's menu position, but it does work in my main menu which is in the sidebar-right position. I have fiddled with setting but I can not work out why.

In Cassiopeia the 'menu' position has style 'none'.
'sidebar-right' has style 'card'.

In your module, under Advanced, set Module style to Card.
