Error configuring Joomla 4 Topic is solved

Hello.
Installed my first instance of Joomla 4. Had no problems and can open the frontend and backend. Can create articles en menu-items.
But when configuring the system globaly I get the message "Invalid controller class: application:"
The items I change are for instance "Debug System" to on, or change the "Website Time Zone"
Is this a known problem? I cannot find any item on your forum.
Joomla version: 4.2.3 Stable
PHP verison: 8.1.0
Database version: 10.3.27-MariaDB

Although unrelated to your question about why you cannot change and save global configuration settings (for which I have no answer), I would suggest (if possible) to change your PHP settings using the table below as guide:



These settings are important if you want to update from one version of J! to another.

Everything else in your FPA report looks quite normal to me. The only question I would ask is a simple one: did you create your website using the official download for J! 4.2.3 or did you use some installation script offered via your webhosting provider?

I changed the PHP settings as mentioned in your table, but that did not solve the problem.
Installation was from an official download, not from a script.
I did not update from an 3.x version. I uploaded it to a sub-directory. It's just for testing and getting used to the 4.x version. If I can't solve it, maybe a new installation is a solution.

I'm really sorry to hear about your experience. I'm not aware of any known problems that would cause you to not be able to change and save the global configuration settings.

Thanks for letting us know that you used the official installation package to create your website.

One last question before you try a "new installation": could you please enable J! debug mode (see viewtopic.php?f=810&t=987965#p3637215 for information how to do that) and then try to use the backend to change the global configuration. When you get the "Invalid controller class: application:" message/error, make a screenshot of that page and post it here.

May not be a significant factor in this issue, but noticed the configuration file permission being 644 (writable) rather than 444 (read-only).

While obviously the file has to be writable to write to it....this is done "internally" when you save a relevant global config setting in the Joomla admin, which then saves it to the configuration.php file (I guess it changes the CHMOD to a writable setting (like 644) then sets back to read only (444) afterwards).

Can you try setting the configuration.php back to CHMOD 444, given your FPA indicates you're on a Linux server. '444' should be the default setting on a default install of Joomla 4.

Also noticed the .htaccess file doesn't exist (or at least htaccess.txt has not been renamed). Again, probably not related to the problem at hand.

Changed the setting of configuration.php and renamed htaccess.txt but unfortunately it didný solve this problem.

Got me tossed. Possibly worth reporting the issue to the J! CMS developers (using the Issue Tracker) to see what the experts think of it. Sorry about that; it's the only other suggestion I can come up with. @365net: you could try a new installation; good luck with it. Maybe it's just "one of those unexplainable mysteries"?
