Change where user needs to select what to search

This is a design related question but it is about how best to handle it with Joomla. I would like to post my thoughts here and get feedback on the feasibility of my plan from those who know Joomla better.

Basically the question is about how to change a site from users just entering a search term to them now having to select from a specific data set (Articles) to search.

Is it ok to post something like that here or is it better done elsewhere? If the former I will expand in another post, if the latter, any thoughts on where best to get this kind of feedback.

In case it matters, my site is a non-profit, personal, hobby related site

This subforum is the right one because the question is about core functionality of Joomla 4.

Are you saying that there may be some selection or option that the Advanced Search option of Smart Search does not have?
