It should do. Not all templates and extensions do though.

Joomla 4.2.9 does not support PHP 8.2 yet but Joomla 4.3.0-rc2 has improvements in that regard.

No version of J! works with PHP 8.2.

No currently released version of Joomla is compatible with PHP 8.2. However, the development version, Release Candidate 2, of Joomla 4.3.0 from the Nightly Builds can be installed perfectly all right using PHP 8.2.

I tried a clean install of Joomla 4.3 rc2 downloaded today and have a new install Joomla 4.2.9 that I did a custom url update to Joomla 4.3

Afte that I did a test with Cpanel to php 8.2 and Joomla crashed frontend and backend doesnt work on php 8.2

So Joomla 4.3 rc2 still doesnt work on php 8.2?

How many Joomla developers have tested Joomla 4.3 on php 8.2 ??
This is important to fix before release pls test and share if work for you...

Update:

after testing the Cpanel php 8.2 settings config and also change to pdo db and save Joomla config file the Joomla 4.3 rc2 dev version works on php 8.2.3 there.. dont know why this start working though...

Well its strange bcs after a lot of testing back and forth I got Joomla 4.2.9 supporting php 8.2.3 ...

It does not work on php 8.2 at present and is supposed to work with Joomla 4.3. though extensions might face an issue. Talk to your extension providers on that matter

As @toivo an I wrote earlier, no supported, stable release of J! works with PHP 8.2. This discussion is about J! 4.2.9. In case anyone is unclear, J! 4.2.9 does not work with PHP 8.2.

People may be able to create a new website with a pre-release, developmental version of J! 4.3 under PHP 8.2 but J! 4.3 hasn’t been fully tested and it’s unsupported. There’s a world of difference between creating a website and using it! If people choose to use developmental versions of software, they do so at their own risk.

normally anyone understand that it is about 8.1.x. ... but not you obviously
and if you don't see the difference between 8.1.x and 8.2.x no one can help you

Is there a good rule of thumb for how often to update PHP version? It seems like half my life now is managing updates, and it's challenging to determine which are worth doing or not. Especially when some involve cleanup after an update.

Following the release cycle, you can stay on one version for 3 years.

7.4: EOL this year
8.0: EOL next year
8.1: EOL in 2 years
