Submenus missing after move to root

Post by bisonBob » Thu Apr 04, 2024 6:57 pm

I have an IIS server with multiple sites, hey all use the same db. I moved my Joomla 4 site from a folder on one site to the root on another site. I thought I had changed everything I needed to, but I am having problems with menus.

I have multiple menu items that have permissions set so that they are only visible to certain groups. The site that is in a folder works fine. The other site with Joomla in the root, none of the menus work unless I set permissions to public. I can't see them logged in as administrator either.

I don't think simply moving the site from one folder to the other would result in that behaviour.

Can you reverse what you did, then use Akeeba Backup and Kickstart to move the site (or follow the other method in this documentation - it sounds like that's what you did but check this doc anyway in case there's something you missed - https://docs.joomla.org/Copying_a_Joomla_website

Was the copied site set up with a new database, that is, did you export the database from the original site, and import it to a new database, then update configuration.php on the copied site to point to the new database (as outlined in the documentation above)?

I followed these directions https://docs.joomla.org/moving_the_site ... irectories

I did not setup a new database. the sites are on the same server and have access to the same database.

Menu items work fine ie, https://development.domain.html/category/site.html
original site is https://www.domain.html/cms/category/site.html (this still works fine)

I don't know why changing the path would cause an issue with permissions, but maybe it does.

I have figured it out. Even tho I was in the backend the menus didn't show up until I logged in through the login page.

Thanks for the help
