Spring cleaning my Joomla

Post by steve_45 » Mon May 20, 2024 4:24 pm

Over time I have dabbled with many extensions which has been great. Due to my own admitant poor housekeeping, it is time for a tidy up of one of my Joomla sites.

I'm looking to do the following below but wanted other people's input as surely this has been done before (yes I did search the forums first but no joy!).
  • Backup everything!
  • Remove extensions/modules no longer in use.
  • Remove users not logged in for over two years.
  • Remove custom fields from extensions still in use.
  • Organise Images and Article category structure better
  • Put new site template in place to give new look and feel.
Any Do's and Dont's out there I need to consider please? ;D

Your list is on track. My suggestions below:
  • Keep joomla up to date - install all updates as they are released (roughly every 6 weeks).
  • Keep extensions updated and use reputable ones from the JED.
  • Backup your site (suggest using Akeeba Backup, and keep on hand its companion Kickstart for easy restoration (if required)).
  • Use Multi-factor authentication in addition to password login or use the new Passkey feature (passwordless login) and .htaccess / .htpasswd for Administrator security. Other security tools can be used as well such as those with the secret key value appended to the URL. The authentication options can be enabled also for front-end users (at their option in their user profile).
  • Suggestion: subscribe to mysites.guru for a comprehensive all-in-one toolset for your Joomla sites.
