Okay, our server is using MariaDB version 10.2.44 and we've been told we need to move everything to a new server to get a newer version.
Yuck!
So, does anyone have any expertise with running newer versions of Mariah? Compatibility issues? Anything else to consider?
We have about 100 client sites running 3.5.x, 4.4.x on this server.
TIA

Database version upgrades would be something your web host is responsible for unless you're running your own server in which case I would think you'd be familiar with such tasks.
MariaDB 10.2.x is no longer maintained, so your sites could be a security risk as would be running Joomla from 9 years ago without updating it.
For reference, J4 (or earlier) system requirements don't list MariaDB as supported (not to say it isn't; just not widely tested) https://manual.joomla.org/docs/4.4/get- ... uirements/)
J5 system requirements were the first to specifically list MariaDB.
https://manual.joomla.org/docs/next/get ... uirements/
Recommended is MariaDB 11.1.0+, minimum 10.4.0
I'd agree why are you running Joomla from 9 years ago? Even 3.10.12 is on its last run - and is only supported (for security updates) through the Long Term Support scheme.
If you have to move to new servers then migrating your sites should be relatively painless.
Use Akeeba Backup to make backups of each and then Akeeba Kickstart to restore each to the new server.
Maybe your web host would do this migration for you (as part of your hosting fees or additional charge - I don't know). The first step is to get Joomla updated to a relatively recent version.

Re: Your MariaDB version "10.2.44-MariaDB" is lower than "10.4".
Thank you.
Yes, some sites are out of date - a few clients have been reluctant to upgrade due to the costs involved. I even have a couple on 2.5.x at this point.
Migrating is "relatively painless" except I need to move 100 websites to a new server (some over 20GB+), repoint DNS records, etc., all while building new sites on a regular basis. And many accounts have email, so there's that, too.

Not sure I'm following you - are you saying 3.10.12 will work but 3.5.x won't? Or did you mean 2.5x?Per Yngve Berg wrote: ↑Tue Sep 10, 2024 7:38 pm 3.10.12 will not have a problem. Seriously, you cant run 3.5.x.

I have 2 sites still on 2.5, all the rest are at 3.10.12 or 4.4.x. Sorry, I wasn't clearer.
