Hi Peter,
It seems this release is not complete. There are 28 PR marqued RTC that are not included https://github.com/joomla/joomla-cms/pu ... abel%3ARTC
There's one about feed display module that may cause issues : https://github.com/joomla/joomla-cms/pull/38312

4.1.5 --> 4.2.0 upgrade
I'm getting emails saying there's an update available for site.com, but, when I go to the admin area, it says I have the latest Joomla version (upgrade setting is default).
Anyone else seeing this or have any idea why the email is correct, but the site is not?

Is the update cache different to the regular cache accessible from the dashboard? I cleared the regular cache, but don't know where the update cache is. By rebuild sites, I assume you mean in Extensions | Manage | Update sites?

The answers to your two questions are (1) yes, and (2) yes.
Use Google to find information about the "update cache" (e.g. https://www.google.com/search?q="update+cache"+joomla)

That's what I thought, but wanted to confirm. That's done, and still the sites are reporting no updates available (though they are still 4.1.5).

Re: 4.1.5 --> 4.2.0 upgrade
It looks like you may be on to something here. I received an email this morning informing me that there was an update available for one of my J! 4.1.5 websites. I also updated a couple of other websites from J! 4.1.5 to J! 4.2.0 a few hours ago.
I see that there's some discussion about the reliability of updating from J! 4.something to J! 4.2.0 at GitHub with this note:
I haven't seen any issues with J! 4.2.0 with the two sites I updated a few hours ago but, as far as other sites I have are concerned, there's no need to rush to update.

A few moments ago I logged-in to the backend of a J! 4.1.5 website (the one that I received the email from) and this is what I see: So it makes one wonder, doesn't it? Anyway, when you go to the Joomla! Update component there's a big message on the screen that says "Currently no update available." There's still the ability, if one wants to try it, to use the Upload & Update function. For the time being it's probably best to wait another 24 hours and see what the CMS release team does.... we have for now removed the update to 4.2.0 being offered while we are looking into the reports of sites failing the update and see how we can fix this as soon as possible.

Re: 4.1.5 --> 4.2.0 upgrade
Yay, it's not just me!! :-) Yes, I did a manual upload and it seemed to go OK, but it's a small, not particularly complex site. Glad I did none of my big, complicated ecommerce sites.
I'm seeing the same thing as in your image - 4.1.5 showing as "No update". Yet there's those pesky emails...

Re: 4.1.5 --> 4.2.0 upgrade
I received one email at 03:20 this morning and I have not received any more since; that was ten hours ago. Hardly what I'd describe as "pesky" ...
It appears that a decision was taken to pull the J! 4.2.0 update from circulation (but, obviously, you can do the upload & update thing if you wish); however, if there was a decision taken it was done very low-key and it's probably only a temporary hold.

Re: Discuss Joomla! 4.2.0
Pesky was tongue in cheek... :-) My last J!4 one was about 1pm MST (I'm 7 hours ahead of you yesterday!!). So that would be around (give or take an hour or 2) the time of you last one.
Cheers!

Joomla 4.1.5, update available, but no really
Hi everyone,
I noticed that my Joomla 4.1.5 in the Home Dashboard shows "An update to version 4.2.0 is available" but in the same screen in "Notifications" shows "Joomla is up to date"
Then, If I go to "Joomla Update" and I click in "Check for updates" and the results is: "Currently no update available"
Any clue?
See attached image.

The J4.2.0 update has been pulled from being offered while they fix a bug.

You can, but it will be safer to hold off until the bug is resolved and J4.2.1 is released.

Several Sites Stuck at J 4.1.5
I have several sites in which the Joomla update feature seems stuck at J4.1.5 I have changed the update changed from Next to Default and back but it has made no difference. The sites are a mix of Joomla 3 upgraded to Joomla 4 and new Sites developed from scratch in 4. is there any reason for it not showing up.
I am on PHP 7.4 but can upgrade to 8 if necessary.

Re: Several Sites Stuck at J 4.1.5
Hi,
This is a subject that we talked about all week long on this forum : viewtopic.php?f=9&t=995727
Just check https://www.joomla.org/announcements/re ... lease.html
You'll see that Joomla4.2.0 contains some bugs, so update has been removed and is not available anymore.
Just wait for J4.2.1 version (should be released next week or earlier).

4.2.0 has been pulled because it's fundamentally broken. Update issues, B/C breaks, security vulnerabilities. And it will only get worse from here.

Re: Discuss Joomla! 4.2.0
Like 99% of people who use Joomla, I primarily rely on community feedback posted here at The Joomla Forum™. The other 1% of people use alternative discussion platforms (e.g. GitHub) and there's a very small intersection of people who use both.
From time to time we who use this forum see announcements about future development plans, upcoming releases available for testing and, when a new version is released, we're given the opportunity to comment about it.
I am disappointed that when there's a new "release candidate" version announced, there's no opportunity to provide community feedback here on this forum. I've written about that before (viewtopic.php?t=986726). I feel that both the general community and the developers can benefit by gauging public reaction, comment, praise and criticism about RC versions before a "stable" version is released. It is therefore disconcerting that these announcements about RC versions continue to be made on the forum but there is no means for people to engage with the forum community to provide feedback.
We all want to celebrate a "win" and we celebrate with the developers when that happens. None of us like to have a "loss" and we commiserate with the developers on those occasions when it happens. However, just like we're the fans at a football match, cheering on the home side, we're part of the action. It's when were excluded from "the action" that we lose heart.
I write these things because, when I read the announcement that starts with the words, "The Joomla! Project is thrilled to announce the feature-packed and timely release of Joomla 4.2 ..."—only to find less than six hours later that J! 4.2.0 has mysteriously vanished as an automated option with the Joomla! Update component—this latest setback is unsettling. Adding to further confusion, these words about the release of J! 4.2.0 have not been officially disendorsed: for the past three days I have searched GitHub, Twitter, Facebook, Google and this forum (of course) to find something that (officially) says, "oops" ...
Reading between the lines, looking at the fragments of information (e.g. the announcement that J! 4.2.1 RC is "available" for testing with a likely release date set for next week) we have to conclude that J! 4.2.0 is unsuitable and should not be used on production websites.
It's a pity that J! 4.2.0 didn't work and the developers have my sympathy that things didn't pan out for them as they expected. It's also a pity that there's a shortage of people who know how to use GitHub to provide feedback in testing future RC versions in order to get things right. I'm sorry that J! 4.2.0 was not a triumphant success but I also hope that this forum can bridge an apparent absence of intersection between the general [forum] community and those who use GitHub.

Upgrading from 4.1.5 to 4.2
Hello everyone. I have my joomla sites running on version 4. I am not an expert coder but got a notification from the server that upgrade to 4.2 is available. I have logged in my websites and joomla keeps saying that everything is up to date. The current version of my sites is 4.1.5 not 4.2 and prompts me everything is up to date. Is there any known issue?
