landing page

Post by JEM-618 » Wed Mar 15, 2023 4:58 am

English / Japanese site. English set to default. My browser is set to load English first. But my site sometimes opens the site in Japanese first. Am I missing something in Joomla or is it my browser?

Sincerely,

Jim

If have not closed the browser, if you closed the site and open it again then the language that was seen last would be the default language.

Does this happen when you close the browser and open again before this happens?

It happens both ways sometimes.

You can see for yourself.

By the way, I live in Japan, so it may be a regional thing.

Suggest trying the following:

- In the plugin "System - Language Filter" for the option "Cookie Lifetime" choose the option "Year" and save the settings.
- Log out of the back-end
- Close the browser
- Log into the back-end
- In the plugin "System - Language Filter" for the option "Cookie Lifetime" choose the option "Session" and save the settings.
- Log out of the back-end
- Close the browser

After executing the above steps see what happens.

What are the settings in the plugin "System - Language Filter"?

Reviewed your site and it works fine. The testing I have done is as follows:

- Opened the site => The site shows the English version of the Home page
- Chose the language JA-JP from the dropdown => The site showed the Japanese Home page (ホーム)
- Chose the menu item お問い合わせ => The site showed the Japanese version of the Contact/Inquiry form
- Closed the Browser
- Opened the Browser
- Opened the site => The site shows the English version of the Home page

Hi,

Thank you for your time. I'm sorry for the late reply. I followed your directions. It must be a browser issue. I've just installed Opera and it seems to work. On the main site, just in case, I disabled the Japanese for now. But, interestingly, on my dev site, it's doing the same thing. If you want to look, I can give you access.

You could send me through PM the details of your site including the login credentials. When time permits, I will review the site to see what happens.

Got it! I totally forgot that one has to post at least 25 posts in order to use the PM feature in the forum.

What I would suggest is to install the extension Akeeba Backup core in the site to be reviewed. After this take a back-up and copy the back-up to a location where it could be downloaded from. Post the link of the backup file in your reply post.

I tried to restore the site. However, when kickstart is extracting the files, it encounters the following error:

Code: Select all

Could not upload media/jlexreview_backup/assets2023-02-27 06:36:20.zip
So, I could not proceed further.

OK, I've deleted that folder and uploaded a new version if you don't mind.

By the way, I wonder if I can receive a PM from you?

Your assumption seems correct.

If you want to force English whenever a new user goes to the site then in the plugin "System - Language Filter", for the option "Language Selection for new Visitors" choose the value "Site Language" and save the settings. At present the value "Browser Settings" is in effect. Suggest changing it.

Note:
I will send this answer through PM as well. Check whether you are receiving it and whether you could reply to the PM.
