I can't uninstall Irish

Post by cobra-arbok » Sat Apr 15, 2023 3:58 pm

I accidentally installed the Irish language, but I am no longer able to uninstall it.
Although I have removed the Language Package, when I go to make the associations I always see it among the installed ones.
I've also tried installing it again and then uninstalling it again, but it's still there.
How do I remove it permanently?
Maybe by intervening on the database?

Please can anyone help me for the removal of this language?
Uninstalling the language pack does not help because it remains in the language list for associations.

Try the following:

- Go to the screen "Languages: Content" (System => Manage -> Content Languages)
- Select the Irish language and change the status to Trashed (press the button "... Actions -> Trash to trash an item)
- Select the status Trashed (by clicking on the button Filter Options and for the option "- Show Status -" choose the value Trashed)
- Select the Irish language and press the button "Empty Trash"

The above procedure will delete the Irish language as one of the Content Languages.

Note:
Be known that when a language is uninstalled, the corresponding content language is not deleted.

To check this out, I installed Irish and then uninstalled it again. With it installed I could see it in the Edit Article Language list. After uninstallation it was still there.

I looked at the database with phpMyAdmin after uninstallation and found entries in the assets, languages and action_logs tables. I deleted the entries for the first two. The choice disappeared from the Edit Article Language. Looks like a bug in the Uninstall code for Irish.

The Irish language does not uninstall correctly

Post by cobra-arbok » Fri Apr 21, 2023 9:31 am

I have already pointed out in the Languages section that if you uninstall the Irish language not everything is uninstalled and some references remain in the filters and associations.
Another user confirmed this and the only solution would still be mulling the database by hand.
But it might be worth correcting the problem so that we can install the language again and then uninstall it again, this time correctly.

There is no need to tinker around with the database. I believe that you have missed the post viewtopic.php?f=809&t=1001134#p3689991 that showed the solution without manipulating the database manually.

If you want to change the behavior, I would suggest creating an issue in the Joomla! Issue Tracker (https://issues.joomla.org).

I tried last time, but it didn't work. It worked now and the references in the bindings are gone.
So thank you for the suggestion.
But I believe that the development team should still fix the problem permanently.
A colleague of mine opened the ticket on the tracker.
