Multi language not working

Hello.
i tried to set up a multingual site by following some tutorials step by step. for some reasons it doesnt work for me.

i created the shadow menu and a menu in every language with a starting page set. activate language switcher and filter and set up categories for each language. i tried on 2 different template (purity 4 and cassiopaia) and both dont work but to my surprise differently.

purity 4 (this is the template i want to use in the end)
here just happens nothing. the language switcher doesnt show up no matter what i do. i just see the items of the shadow manu (for all languages)

here the language switcher shows up and english language works but the there is an error message for the other 2 languages (german, italien).

can somebody help me to figure out what is happening and where i did sth wrong?

Do you have the admin module "Multilanguage status" enabled?
You can use that module to check the multilingual settings.
You can find it in the back-end via: System > Administrator Modules > Multilanguage status

multilinguage status is enabled, position: status. i wonder though were (i guess in the backend) i can see that status.

the message i get when i try to switch to italian or german with ghe cassiopaia template is: "the site cannot be found"

Could you check the analysis of that multilinguage status in the back-end?
It will determine if you have set up everything correclty and might give you pointers if you didn't.
