Is the Installation Errorlog

Post by SPDJoomla4 » Tue Nov 21, 2023 3:22 pm

Hi,
Trying to install 4.4 on a test server and I keep getting 'an error has occurred' message during the database phase. Don't suppose there is a error log which might provide me with more information? I have quadruple check db name, username and pw and verified access rights in phpadmin (cpanel)
Cheers

Simply means your databae credentials are incorrect. Check the installation procedure at the Joomla docs section

https://docs.joomla.org/J3.x:Installing_Joomla

BTW why dont you just installl Joomla 5? Why installing defunct versions that are no longer supported in 1/2 year time?

@Leo, you referenced (accidentally(?)), the J3 documentation for installing Joomla which should instead be this: https://docs.joomla.org/J4.x:Installing_Joomla. Additionally, J4 is not obsolete just yet; it has 18 months of support remaining (regular bug fix to Oct 2024, security fixes to Oct 2025).

However, I also think a lot of Joomla users have been caught out with J5 because their web hosting doesn't support the minimum requirements for J5.

To the OP, is the test server a live (hosted) server (such as a subdomain) or localhost (your PC)? For the latter, if the site is not live on the internet, you don't usually need a MySQL (database) password if running WAMPServer, XAMPP etc. The db user would usually be "root" with no db password.

What is your server environment? Can you provide the basic details (PHP version, database type etc)? You can run the FPA (see red box top of screen) and post the report here. You could also enable error reporting through your server settings (php.ini file for instance), and also enable debug the same way, both of which would show detailed errors on screen. I think the error log file is called something like errors.php

Hi there!

As AMurray mentioned, understanding your server environment can help pinpoint the issue. In my experience, details like the PHP version, database type, and server settings can all play a role in the installation process.

Additionally, running the FPA (Forum Post Assistant) as suggested can provide valuable diagnostic information.
