Is it possible to update from 4.x to a specific 4.y?

Post by RaulOG » Tue Sep 03, 2024 12:12 pm

I saw there's a cli tool for updating Joomla4, but running this command will get you updated to the latest version.

Is there any way I can update joomla4 to a specific 4.x.y version? I have a DTAP setup, and when I'm making an update to joomla, I want certainty that what I deployed to TEST is the same that will be deployed to PRODUCTION.

So that means I need to be able to lock which version I'm updating to. Unfortunately the cli will always update o latest and apparently there's no way to instruct which version you want.

Download the Package and use the Upload&Update Option.

What is Upload&Update? A button somewhere in the administrator dashboard?

I'm looking for an option that allows me to update to a specific version automatically via pipeline. In my DTAP setup, deploying to test or production should suffice to get joomla updated to the target version that worked during testing in local/test/accept environment.

That's why I researched if the cli command to run a core:update would allow me to update to a specific version...

Yes, it's a button in the Joomla Update Component.

Thank you for your answers.

I am still looking for a way to update to a specific version from a pipeline, without having to log in anywhere to press a button.

Perhaps the only way is to build a custom script which runs any .sql from current DB version to target update version.

Have your own update server. Then you have full control of the versions released.

That does sound like a solution indeed. Will try. Thank you.
