CPanel Joomla install not working

Post by webmasterman2 » Sun Aug 21, 2022 9:24 pm

I'm having some sort of trouble with installing Joomla on a CPanel instance. I followed the instructions on creating the SQL database and the user, and I uploaded the zip file to the public_html folder and extracted it there, and nothing happens. I even tried using the Softaculous installer and when I tried to access the Joomla installation directory I just get ERR_CONNECTION_RESET from chrome. Same thing happens if I try to access index.php in any of the folders. I have the permissions set to allow for all users (global).

I tried clearing my cache and tried it through another browser. No luck. Not sure what I did wrong or where to go from here.

You need to check where the Joomla code is actually located. Use the cPanel File Manager - look in public_html first of all. Is it there or is it in a subfolder? Is the installation folder present amongst the other folders?

If the code is in the root you just need to open https://your.domain/ and you should get the installation screen.

Everything you said is what I did. However, I tried installing wordpress instead and I'm having the same issue. So maybe it's a problem with CPanel? Anytime I try to access an admin panel for Joomla or Wordpress it gives me the ERR_CONNECTION_RESET page for chrome.

ERR_CONNECTION_RESET seems unrelated to the Joomla installation problems. A google search on "ERR_CONNECTION_RESET from chrome" suggests a network issue, and perhaps following the suggestions found here, https://techcult.com/fix-err-connection-reset-on-chrome may help.
Softaculous is not recommend as an installation method.

The recommended installation is per Joomla's instructions found here: https://docs.joomla.org/J4.x:Installing_Joomla. Download the package https://downloads.joomla.org.

When you have uploaded and extracted the files, you state "Nothing happens". Did this error occur in browser other than Google Chrome?

Maybe it's your web host, since you have replicated the issue with a non-Joomla application (i.e. Wordpress). But did you try Wordpress the normal way (not using Softaculous)?

I found the problem. It had to do with my hosting provider's DNS settings. Took a little playing around but I eventually got it. Thank you for posting resources for help.
