cannot log in to admin

Post by jerry258 » Tue Jun 28, 2022 3:46 pm

Over the weekend lost access to my site. I have tried all the ways to reset my password with PHP, or even adding a new superuser. Nothing works, can't get to backups. I am running Joomla 4.1.5, on win 11, have used Akeeba backup on the site. Solidly locked out

This is a plain install of Joomla, I don't see anything here that could cause the password to not work, would suggest following the advice about reset of password Method 2 above.

The site is set to Offline: true so the only front-end access would be (by default) the super user or other administrators (I think only SU by default unless you change it). That would be the same login as for the backend administrator.

I don't know why you can't retrieve your Akeeba backup files, you should be able to retrieve the JPA file(s) by FTP or your web-host file manager (e.g. in cPanel) or if its your own physical server, then through the file system of that server's operating system. The backup archive (the JPA file(s)) should be in the default folder location, or wherever you have set up Akeeba to save them.

Using phpMyAdmin
In #__users look at the ID of your Admin user
In #__user_usergroup_map locate that ID and find the group_ID it is in
In #__usergroups make sure that group_ID (found in the id column) is Super user.

If that checks out then report back and we can check the assets table

Heck, it's Windows 11! Perhaps the OP doesn't know where to look?

I agree with your ideas and with @Webdongle's suggestions. Probably best to hear back from the OP before doing anything else.

Apropos of nothing: I lost access to all of my Wampserver-hosted sites a few weeks ago and had to uninstall and then re-install everything again; took me a day but it was worth it and I learnt a thing or two about Wampserver in the process. Not that my story may have anything to do with this discussion but it could beg the question that, if one there are other websites on the OP's Win11 system, are other websites also unaccessible?

This is probably Elastic Stack in an Azure VM: Install the Elastic Stack (ELK) on an Azure VM.

Can you tell me where to find out more about this. the Akeeba documentation is not helpful

administrator/components/com_akeeba/backup
After doing some investigation, I found out that in the #__assets table, the 1st record (id=1, 'Root Asset') was missing.
And that record contains ACL rules like for core.login.admin.

I have a 1st record in my 'root asset' , there is data in it.

The Offline status is only for the frontend. Any user group with Admin access can login to Admin even if the can't access the front end Offline site.

Default for Akeeba jpa files is administrator/components/com_akeeba/backup

Next step check in #__assets table the following exists.

Code: Select all

... "core.login.api":{"8":1}, ... "core.admin":{"8":1}, ...
Make a copy of the database before editing

The OP may be using Windows 11 on his PC but the website (per the FPA....) is on Linux.....

Akeeba documentation will tell the OP everything he needs.....

If it's a Linux partition then it could be an ownership issue? https://docs.joomla.org/Installing_Joom ... bian_Linux
Yes Default for Akeeba jpa files is administrator/components/com_akeeba/backup whatever the OS
