Dashboard/editing

Post by Be3ee » Mon Nov 21, 2022 7:39 am

I just joined to start create website and I am absolutely not happy what I saw. It took me 8 hours to find by self how to edit header, add logo, change padding but even that I was struggling as the whole panel is not user friendly and has no structure or natural order at all. I am trying now to change category name and I cannot do it. Did change it in dashboard but event this I am forgetting to easy find again as it is so chaotically developed, that user cannot remember where he did and what. To come back I probably must write it down to know the path. This is not acceptable in 2022. So therefore I would recomend to restructure the whole Dashbord. Example>

1. Uploading template
2. Editing template
3. Changing template panels
4. Changing logo
6. Editing Menu
7. Editing Category
8. Add> Slider, box, panel, line, ect
9. Creating/editing blogs, articles
10. Edit/create new dataset and connect it to the web
11. Edit/create forms
...
...
and so on. So can somebody explaine why there is total chaos in dashboard? And can somebody recreate it to an intuitive user friendly way???

Welcome to the Joomla forum!

Sorry to hear if the Dashboard was not intuitive enough. However, as you may know, there is plenty of documentation to prepare for the configuration and contenty management, for example:

Can you post a screenshot of your messed up dashboard so we know what you are talking about?

Problem starts from begining. To pay for package is ok, then you are adding your domain, that is ok, but now the problem starts. It should be step by step
1. download this or that administration pack pro for example to your laptop
2. Download template you would like to use (here is also a problem that there are 3 options, what should I download???? and what about langauges, for what are they needed and how many I should download.....
3. Next go to admin panel by doing this and that(why i have to search for a vidoes and to ask google where is the dashboard, where is admin panel, how to login....
4. now i entered domain/administrator and gettin error. (you must state that if my domain is on other account it will give you error, and you must first remove it from the other account.

saga goes on and to be continued, I have already a lot of responsivity issues but will see once I somehove get inside admin panel....

Yes, there are many that agree with you that Admin is confused. But perhaps your approach is cart before the Horse.

I suggest you start with pen and paper

Write down your categories (and if needed sub-categories)
Write down the Tiles of your menu items
Write down your menus and sub-menus

Install the Joomla full package
Create your Categories (and sub-Categories)
Create your Articles
Create your Menus and sub-Menus

Save your work frequently (look up Akeeba)

Then bother with the look n feel of the Template

Joomla is a CMS (Content Management System) not a CMS (Create Sites Magically). In other words you need to start with content to be manage before you can make it look good). Not magically create a site without any experience and without content to manage.

Every beginning is diffult but it will get easier as you go!

Let's have a look at some of your questions from the topic and the attached Word document.

I downloaded this SP Page Builder Pro but you not telling what to download.
SP Page Builder Pro is a paid extensions, developed by JoomShaper, a third party not affiliated with the Joomla! Project. Questions about the requirements and functions of SP Page Builder should be addressed to JoomShaper first, even though volunteers in this Joomla support forum may also be using SP Page Builder and might be able to answer some questions.

Download just the template. The quickstart packages are complete Joomla websites with third party templates and extensions. They may be good for pre-sales demonstrations and getting a website up and running quickly but they are not recommended for live production sites.

where is instruction to go to joomla.org?????
If you are browsing this forum and found an extension, you have already found joomla.org.

No instruction. Should I press download or launch or what?
The Joomla installation package is downloaded from https://downloads.joomla.org and https://launch.joomla.org, a.k.a. https://joomla.com, is a free website service, provided by CloudAccess.net, an independent web hosting provider. It is up to you, how you want to proceed. However, some research of the existing options and the skill levels required is recommended before diving headfirst into web administration and especially web development.

Now I should login to admin panel but had to ask many things in google.
Using a search engine is an alternative to studying Joomla documentation. Be careful in interpreting the search results because, even if the answers were relevant several years and many releases ago for earlier versions, they can be misleading and not applicable to the latest version of Joomla.

Some knowledge of domains and their management is assumed as given. Unfortunately instructions and documentation can cover only a limited part of possible issues, tasks and circumstances. That is why the ever evolving IT has areas of specialisation like Webmaster, Web Developer, Front End Developer, Security Consultant, Database Administrator and so on.

I am so sure that I will find so many bugs by developing as I was doing on other account som changes and cannot find solution for non functional responsive sliders, galleries and so on….
There is no such thing as software with no bugs when dealing with hundreds of thousands of lines of coding. That is why the volunteer developers of Joomla publish beta versions and release candidates (RC) before new versions are released. Remember also that this Joomla support forum acts as a sounding board before issues are reported to the Joomla! Issue Tracker - CMS and discussed and fixed in Github.

Login to the back end, in other words the administrator dashboard, from this URL, where example.com is the domain of the website:

http://example.com/administrator

The above URL assumes that your website is hosted remotely, in the internet by a web host. If you are hosting the website in your workstation, the URL could be for example:

http://127.0.0.1/my-website
