Extension missing from back end view Topic is solved

Q: How to get extension to appear in Administrator Extensions Manage

I have a working Joomla site in two stages - development and production. In both stages, Alexandria Book Library (Abook) works properly. However, in the Administrator's view, the Extensions manager does NOT list the extension. My work-around is to address the extension directly, such as site.name.com/administrator/index.php?option=com_abook

I looked at "Redirects" component missing. viewtopic.php?f=708&t=950841&p=3476224#p3478044 but found that my "component_id" in "_menu" matched "id" in "_extensions".

none.

Searched Forum for missing extension. Nearest was "redirects" component missing (f=708&t=950841&p=3476224#p3478044) but my component ID matches Extension ID.

Have you tried to reinstall Alexandria Book Library 4.0.1? Make a full back up first, just in case.

Just installed the version 4.0.1 of the component in Joomla 4.2.6-dev and it is listed in the Components menu all right.

Toivo, yes, I'll do that soon. Federica of Abook confirmed that others have not had this issue, so re-installing will probably work. I think I can use SP Transfer to copy my data.

Re-installing may have been an incorrect word. Just install the same version and the extension should work like an update without deleting the database tables. But make a full backup of the website first, including the database, just in case.

No success so far.

Re-installing over the top of the existing installation gave me two errors:
1. The alias com-abook is already being used by the com_abook menu item in the MZone menu.
2. Error building Administrator Menus.

The error messages said that com_abook already existed within the _menu table at row 859.

Using phpMyAdmin, I browsed to that row in that table and amended the values in that row. I changed "com_abook" to "com_abookx", and saved the resulting row.

Then I re-installed Abook over the top of the existing installation. Firstly, it gave no error messages. Secondly, the Administrator menu item appeared as expected. Thirdly, all data looks correct on both the Administrator and Site sides.
