Global Check-In

I've never used the lock / check-out / check-in process as I am the only user editing content on my site. That said, now that I moved to J4, it stood out to me that I have many tables with items to check-in including banners, content, extensions, menu, modules, and pixtrakcer_tags.

Does checking in these items change any content that I may not want changed, or it is just releasing a lock on an item? Any potential downside of doing a check-in?

Short answer to your general question. There are no known downsides to checking in checked-out items.
