No system action log plugin
Dear all,
I refer to a Joomla installation, which is the result from a Joomla 3.10.8 to 4.1.2 update, and which - in the meanwhile - has been updated to 4.2.9. I wanted to use the user action log, activated all "action" plugins, but didn't see any entry.
For comparison I installed a new, empty Joomla 4.2.9 where all went well - entries exist. In this installation there is a plugin called "System - User Actions Log" which doesn't exist in the installation which has been updated from 3.10.8.
To my understanding this plugin shows to the file "plugins/system/actionlogs/actionlogs.xml" which exists in both installations. Nevertheless the plugin insn't visible in the installation which has been updated from 3.10.8.
Any ideas how to fix this? How can I get the action log working?
Thanks in advance.

Re: No system action log plugin
You may also need to enable "Action Log - Joomla." Does your site have such a plugin? Is it enabled?
What do you mean "didn't see any entry" (Do you mean search results?)
Can you screenshot your plugins manager, and filter on "Actions Log" so we can see what you're seeing (or not seeing)?
I have "Action Log - Joomla" and "System - User Actions Log" in my J4 site.
I wonder if a Discover Install will locate it and install it in case it hasn't done so properly.

Re: No system action log plugin
Action Log - Joomla is enabled, as you can see.
What In mean is the following:
- in the fresh Joomla 4.2.9 installation there is a plugin called "System - User Actions Log" when I look for plugins with key "action" (JoomlaActionPluginsFresh). User action logging works.
- in my production Joomla 4.2.9 with was updated from 3.10.8 as mentioned this plugin doesn't show as you can see from the screenshot (JoomlaActionPlugins). User action logging doesn't work.
I already did a diff of the filesystem
"diff -r production-site-dir/plugins fresh-test-site-dir/plugins"
to see if there are files missing, but didn't find missing files.
Is it possible to install "System - User Actions Log" again?
Regards

Re: No system action log plugin
Update: in the meanwhile I tried "Reinstall Joomla core files" from the Joomla update section, but this didn't change the behaviour - the "System - user action log" plugin don't show.

Re: No system action log plugin
As suggested by @AMurray, did you try System - Install - Discover?

Re: No system action log plugin
But its not an extension, the plugin belongs to Joomla core - does "System - Install - Discover work with core files, too?

Re: No system action log plugin
Yes, it does. When a row in the _extensions table is missing, Discovery finds the manifest file. Then, when you click the Install button, the entry in the _extensions table is reconstructed.

Re: No system action log plugin
Great!!!
Under "System - Install - Discover" I found a plugin "User Actions Log" (I thought before, Discover only works with external plugins, modules or extensions).
I reinstalled it, it shows up under plugins, and after enabeling it all is fine now!
Thanks a lot!
