big resources usage

Post by stefanocps » Wed Sep 20, 2023 8:52 am

Hello my site has hit resource usage (cpu and I/O) and been limited..so it is very slow
Trying to understand what happen:
i don't have anything in joomla but a questionnaire with Fabrik
I use helix template
Access to questionnaire is restricted, user must login..so the homepage is just a login form, than there is the fabrik form
This questionnaire is used now just for inserting data, one person put yes/no to questions, and there are around 100 records now
Provider dont tell me what caused this
So i am not sure if it is joomla or fabrik
Wha can i do to check what happening?
thanks

p.s.
host say that the report indicate this
/private_html/index.php

as source if problem

but it seems really unuseful

Run your site through gtmetrix and see what that says.

Helix is probably contributing to the "heavy resources" use.

I have no idea what "private_html/index.php" is. Not a part of Joomla as far as I'm aware - something in your hosting unique to your hosting?

"private_html" as opposed to the typical "public_html"? Which is the folder you usually upload web files to?

actually..private_html is a link to public_html..so nothing special
so you think switching to default template might improve?

You could always test. Switch to Cassieopia temporarily. See if that makes a difference to the GTMetrix score.

Are you on shared hosting - and is your host absolutely positive it's *your* site causing the slow performance and over-using the server resources?

I also use Helix - no issues with my sites but then they are not high-traffic sites. Your form is not being spammed or anything like that? Or any other adverse "bot" activity?

What does the GTMextrix report say in terms of suggestions to improve the performance? 98% seems "near perfect" but that's in that one instance of the GTMextrix testing, not "real world" use of the site.

i don't think helix can cause this kind of problem..i switch o cassiopeia for a while but i could see the same slowness as with helix
Gtmetrix says that what i should do to fix issue with moderate/low impact is "Use a Content Delivery Network"
There are other with low impact...but i don't think also they are the problem

Meanwhile i made some more test. My host, shared, has 1cpu...and the provider gave me 4 cpu to test if it is a problem of Fabrik needing more resouces
Even with 4, when i do certain operation cpu usage goto 100%
So it is that when i do more than 1 search using a filtr (on a db field that is yes/no) close to the other...there is the issue
At first seacrh is fine, from second (if it is really close to the first) start problem, system hangs for a while and resources of cpu hit 100&
This is a fact..i can replicate, so this is a problem for sure
Site has no traffic when there is no activity. To make activity you need to login, otherwise you remain in the homepage with the loginform and nothing else
Once login, the user can insert data, make fiter and that's all...and only 1 user a time is there

btw
the gxmetric would check the real form page?being the fact that th ehome page is just a login form..how can gtmetrix test the page where he work is really done?

Enable debug, inspect profiling information and database queries.

Timings look normal and the number of queries is sensible. Memory consumption is on the high side, I'm guessing OpCache is disabled in PHP. You should try enabling it.
