Problem with contact form / test emails

Post by BaseballPlayer » Wed Nov 29, 2023 7:47 pm

Hello all,

I have a site hosted by godaddy (I did not use installatron) and I am trying to set up a contact form. I am using the standard one that comes with joomla. It does not appear to work with my godaddy hosted emails, but I was able to get it to work using gmail email addresses.

To dig a little deeper, I followed the debugging instructions here: viewtopic.php?t=994998#p3664939

I see errors very similar to this one whether I get the email or not:

Code: Select all

ERROR 73.100.200.99	mail	Error in Mail API: Result: true

ERROR 73.100.200.99	mail	Error in Mail API: Sending with mail()
ERROR 73.100.200.99	mail	Error in Mail API: Sendmail path: /usr/sbin/sendmail -t -i
ERROR 73.100.200.99	mail	Error in Mail API: Envelope sender:
ERROR 73.100.200.99	mail	Error in Mail API: To: "mydomain.com - Production" <[email protected]>
ERROR 73.100.200.99	mail	Error in Mail API: Subject: Test mail from Welcome to mydomain
ERROR 73.100.200.99	mail	Error in Mail API: Headers: Date: Wed, 29 Nov 2023 16:55:51 +0000
From: "mydomain.com - Production" <[email protected]>
Message-ID: <[email protected]>
MIME-Version: 1.0
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8

ERROR 73.100.200.99	mail	Error in Mail API: Result: true
I tried to obsfuscate what I could. My Joomla version is 4.4.1. In Global Configuration/Server, email is set to PHP, from email is my godaddy hosted email address and the reply fields are empty.

I am thinking if I can rtesolve this issue with the test email, I'll be able to get the contact form working. Thanks in advance and please let me know if I can offer more info.

In Global Configuration/Server, email is set to PHP
When 'PHP Mail' is selected as Mailer in the Global Configuration, the host is responsible for what happens to the email. The egress firewall in the host network is likely to have blocked the message.

It would be better to use SMTP, if the host allows the Joomla website to connect to an external mail server, or Sendmail, in which case your host needs to give you the details of their mail forwarding server.

I have a similar problem. I set configuration to PHP and it didn't work. I called GoDaddy and used the smtp settings. Joomla test said it worked but message was not received. I am using Gmail address in global server configuration.
What is my next step in troubleshooting?
Thanks

Check the Sent folder in Gmail. The test message is normally found from the Sent folder.

It is not there. Is there something on the server side i.e. hosting company that could be blocking it?

Godaddy is not authorised to send mail on behalf of Gmail. You must use the gmail SMTP server.

Follow these two Joomla tutorials:
How do I use Gmail as my mail server?
How to debug SMTP mail in Joomla 4

Copy and paste the messages from the SMTP dialogue here for advice.
