App update results in error

Post by mollcons » Tue Apr 09, 2024 11:09 am

For the last few days, one of my domains hosted with Zen Internet has proven impossible to apply updates to installed apps.

The error I get is:
An error has occurred.
0 Joomla\Filesystem\Folder::create: Could not create directory. Path: /data02/stowjo

When I look at the FTP environment, the home directory structure shows as: /data03/stowjo, however when I check the Joomla Global Configuration page it shows the temp folder as /data02/stowjo/public_html/tmp

When I posed this issue with Zen, they replied saying I should consult my web developer (me!!) as the /data02 describes a dynamic management location.

What should I do? The admin portal and the web site work fine as currently configured.

The Path is obviously wrong, so you should change it.

Look at your configuration.php - is there anything in the $live_site variable? Are any of the file settings pointing to the wrong path?

That is: public $live_site = '';

The only variables that show a physical directory are:
public $log_path = '/data02/stowjo/public_html/logs';
public $tmp_path = '/data02/stowjo/public_html/tmp';

If I change the data02 to data03, will that stop me accessing the administrator account, which I can still do?
If that does still work, what happens if Zen's server changes back to /data02 or /data04 as I have been informed obviously can occur?

I suggest you do not change anything until you establish what the path is supposed to be. Look in System / Information / Folder Permissions and see what is there.

How are doing the update? Why do you need to use FTP.

The message you quoted is typical of a folder permissions problem.

I would make the change within the administrator portal from preference.

How would the folder permissions be modified?

Looking at the folder permissions I see the following as in the attachment.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

I wonder what dynamic management location means!

Having configuration.php unwritable is normal. I suggest you change the log and tmp paths to /data03/... and see what that does.
