Finding article using URL

Post by rob-h » Mon Sep 30, 2024 1:17 pm

Hi

I share the admin of my site with a complete beginner (I admit I too have many gaps in my understanding).

The URL of our front page is:

http://edmontonhundred.org.uk/index.php ... Itemid=101

I think my co-admin created this front page by editing an existing article. It needs updating.

I cannot find the article - the articles with IDs 8 or 101 (the ID and ITEMID numbers from the URL) are not correct.

I'd be grateful for advice on how to find the article for editing.

Many thanks

Rob

This is a category page with ID 8. Search for an article assigned to this category.

Thanks Sharkykz and Webdongle - your advice was enough to narrow down a thousand articles to 3 or 4!

Webdongle - Yes, we are using Akeeba. And yes, I should enable SEF URLs, but I'm afraid I the site would be completely messed up if I enable at this stage. I wonder if I could back up to Akeeba, move to J!5, and restore to avoid that?

You can always use https://wampserver.aviatechno.net/ on your pc to test updates, play etc.
Once installed create a new folder in Wamp's \www folder.
Copy the jpa file and kickstart.php to the new folder.
Start Wamp and point your browser at localhost/newfolder (whatever the new folder is).
The database will be created during install.

You can create other folders in Wamp's \www folder if you wish

Great learning curve but if you have some free time it's worth the effort.

Your site Home URL is http://edmontonhundred.org.uk/

The Home page is a category blog with one leading article and on other article.

Look in All Menu Items and sort on Home to bring the Home menu to the top of the list. Open the menu and it will show which Category is being used. Then go to the Articles list and filter by that category. You may need to know the category sort order but I guess you will only have two articles in the list.
