Resolve Joomla upgrade 500 error without backup

Hello,

a general question...

I see many people who upgrade their live Joomla 3 to Joomla 4 without doing the right actions.

Then they get the error:

Sorry, there was a problem we could not recover from.
The server returned a "500 - Whoops, looks like something went wrong."

Many people who have these issues don't make backups at the time, so they can't fall back on that either.

So my question is can this error be solved? Or can you consider the site lost?

I wonder if there is a manual for this.

The chances are that all of the site data are still intact in the database so all is not lost. 500 errors after upgrade are often related to incompatible extensions - so edit configuration.php to set error reporting to maximum and debug to enabled, then see what the stack trace says. Note: to edit configuration.php with a text editor you need to make it writable. Some extensions can be disabled by editing the database with phpMyAdmin.
