Unable to update from 4.1.3 to 4.1.4 Topic is solved

Unfortunately I struggled also with updating - but in my case from Joomla 4.1.3 to version 4.1.4 (which I updated a few days before from Joomla 3.10.9 to 4.1.3 without any problems).

I am on a WAMP developing server and I tried several ways to update, but the error message was always "The archive is not open for reading."

(Not that important but still: After closing the error message the backend there was no "go back button" and I even could not click on the Joomla logo to start the dashboard of the backend again. I had to manually type the adress .../administrator/index.php in my browser to load the home page of the backend again.)

In my /tmp folder I could see the temporary file ju9764.tmp, so the downloading process of the ZIP file was fine, but the update process did not work.

The error message is in the
\administrator\components\com_joomlaupdate\extract.php
in the readArchiveHeader and readFileHeader-functions.

In my /administrator/logs folder -> everything.php the last lines are:

2022-05-26T16:45:12+00:00 INFO 127.0.0.1 update File [ROOT]\tmp\ju7581.tmp successfully downloaded.
2022-05-26T16:45:12+00:00 INFO 127.0.0.1 update Starting installation of new version.

In my /administrator/logs folder -> joomla_update.php last line is:

Finally I ended up with installing it "the good old manual way" with copying the files and then use database repair in the backend.

So I managed the update but the problem will return at the next update.

"For fun" I tried to install the zip file of the update again - although not needed after manually updating of course -, but as expected the error message is just the same.

Is there really .tmp on the end of ju7581? That looks strange.

Can you try to generate the joomla_update.txt file as I described below?

Yes, the TMP-Files were generated every time - ju7581.tmp or ju625E.tmp or juA8.tmp and they have always the same size as the Joomla_4.1.4-Stable-Update_Package.zip - 24,770 KB.

I tried to generate joomla_update.txt by adding the line
define('_JOOMLA_UPDATE_DEBUG', 1);
but unfortunately without success. Only the *.tmp file is generated in the /tmp-folder, no joomla_update.txt.

In the meanwhile I updated two other sites - which were also updated from older Joomla 3.10.9 versions - on the same server without any problems. Maybe the database from the stubborn site is corrupted, I will have a deeper look once again.

Issue resolved! I did not find corrupted database tables, so I checked the configuration.php thoroughly again. As I am working on a local wamp server, I mixed up slash and backslash in the $tmp_path. Shame on me!!!!
After correcting the path, everything is fine.

Sorry for wasting your time. A strange thing is that the last update WITH SAME CONFIGURATION FILE had no problem. And the error message "The archive is not open for reading" should have been slightly more concrete... But I am happy that I found my mistake after all.
