@catchergourmet I tried a lot to resolve this but never did. Just delete the installation and retry the update. Make sure you remove ANY extension which is not J!4 compatible. That's where most of the issues arise.

Unfortunately, I can't log in and delete the installation.

How can I delete?

Use FTP or your host's cpanel.

First step: use a text editor to open administrator/logs/joomla_update.php

You should see a report on how the update went - first some lines about the start version, then 400+ lines of sql queries, then a finish up report. How far did the queries get? What do you see at the end?

It may be best to restore your previous version from backup and then follow the Step by Step upgrade procedure.

Are you installing joomla properly or using a one click installation programme ?

Hi Ceford,

Unfortunately, I have no idea on everything.

I hope someone can help me fix it for me.

Hi,

I think there has been a problem during installation on the new version.

As I remember, I uploaded the file Joomla_4.3.4-Stable-Full_Package.zip then after I got that error.

Sorry, I am not actually experienced in web design or programming.

In cPanel select File Manager from the Files panel and then find your way to pubic_html and then your joomla installation.

Also, run the Forum Post Assistant and post the public results here so we can see what you have installed.

In cPanel File Manager open administrator and then logs. Is joomla_update.php there? If yes, open it with the edit button at the top of the screen.

Yes, deleting the installation will delete the entire website. Not that that matters as, with that error, I doubt the site is running anyhow. As I said, I never managed to "fix" this error other than deleting and reinstalling. As Per said, you can do this in cPanel. You could also use an FTP program like FileZilla - https://filezilla-project.org/. I recommend, if you're dealing with websites you get a good FTP program. Much simpler for doing many tasks than cPanel.

Once you have a clean slate (don't forget to trash the existing MySQL database and make a new one. I recommend giving it a different name - probably overkill, but to be safe), reinstall your v3.x Joomla site. Have a look at this (or similar) doc - https://www.joomlart.com/blog/joomla-te ... p-tutorial.

When you start your J!4 upgrade, pay very careful attention to what the pre-check squawks about. Granted, after 90+ upgrades, I've found that it actually lies!! :D Everything it squawks about is not necessarily an issue. I use JoomlaCK's products heavily and it complains about these, as well as Akeeba's products, every time. Yet I only make sure I have the most up-to-date J!3 versions before upgrade. I update the extensions fine afterwards. I have found the biggest issues come from, not components, but, first, templates. A J!3 only template will kill your frontend EVERY TIME. Then modules and plugins. Old, outdated versions will, again, kill your frontend, and, sometimes, the admin too.

I suggest, if you're at all in doubt abut your template, switch to Cassieopia before trying to upgrade. Then go through Extensions | Manage and carefully look at every line in conjunction with the pre-check. Root out any outdated installs. Even if you uninstall at this point, you can reinstall later and the database structure will still be there so you shouldn't lose anything.
