Updated to 4 and now there's no Menus Topic is solved

Greetings, I just updated my Joomla 3.10.12 to 4.4.9 today, though now there's no menus on the home page, and I even hit all the checkboxes in the "Site Template Styles" for the menus in the "Menu Assignment" tab. https://joomla.wholisticapproaches.net

Also when I click on the "Help" button at the top right, it opens a pop-over window with "The Requested page can't be found"



How do I make it show the menus and the recent articles again?

Also, I'm not sure why it seems to think that the Error Reporting is still set to Maximum... I already changed it back to System Default.

Ok, alright... I had turned on the Error Reporting to Maximum, though I don't know how to get the errors, and the Pre-Update check reccomends that they're off, so I turned it off. Also how do I turn off Output Buffering? Off is apparently the recommended setting, and it is On now.

Greetings Ser toivo, I can change the permissions in the Plesk Control Panel, and the tmp folder was already writable. I'm not sure why it's still indicating that the Session Path is not Writable.

Also, how do I turn off the "Output Buffering"? Or does it not have to be off before updating to 5?

how do I turn off the "Output Buffering"? Or does it not have to be off before updating to 5?

The PHP directive output_buffering is in the php.ini file. It can be set in a php.ini file in a particular folder like the Joomla folder, or in an .htaccess file. I have updated localhost sites with output_buffering on and remote sites, where it is off, and did not notice any difference.

Is that normal with the colon(:)? it's not showing the subdomain that Joomla is on.

The colon character acts as a PATH_SEPARATOR in the directive open.basedir, separating the folders or directories in the list. The folder '/tmp' is located at the top level of the filesystem of the web server, several levels above the Joomla folder. But, as @Per Yngve pointed out, the PHP directive open.basedir should be empty.

Alright, I've updated my site to Joomla 5, but it's still missing all of the menus. Also it has the "The PHP temporary folder is not set." warning. Plus all of the links to my articles that I had saved before are broken, it seems 5 uses a different style of link. Why does the article listing in the administrator section not show a public link to the article?

These things may not necessarily play a part in fixing the missing menu problem. For one thing, change the Session handler from Database to Filesystem.

You also have an Open Base Directive set on the website. Remove/disable the Open Base Directive.

Max. POST size and Max. Upload Size values are inadequate for Joomla 4. Suggest 128M for the former and 64M for the latter.

Give your SQL user ALL_PRIVS.

Disabling open_basedir can pose security risks if not done carefully. Make sure you understand the implications and take necessary precautions.

Additionally, I just created a new folder for the session path and added the file location in the "Session Save Path" field. Although the FPA still thinks that the Session Path is not writable. Even though I just opened the directory and noticed two new files saved by the Joomla system.

There will be plenty of other people who'll tell you that the "security risk" posed by disabling the open base directive is folklore. If you want to fix your problems then disable the open base directive.

Where are the "Max. POST size and Max. Upload Size" values ?

How do I change that "Config mode"?

The value 444 means that the file configuration.php in the main Joomla folder is write-protected. When you access the backend of Joomla and go to System - Setup - Global Configuration, make changes and save the settings, Joomla makes the file write-enabled, updates the file and then write-protects it automatically.

If you intend to edit the variables in the file configuration.php manually by using FTP or the File Manager from the cPanel, provided by your host, change the permissions of the file from 444 to 644, which means that the owner of the file has the permission to write to the file. After the changes have been saved, change the permissions back to 444.

Alright then, the FPA is now showing an "A". Although it still thinks that the "Session Path" is not writable, which it obviously is, given all of the items in the folder after I login to the admin pages. Why the discrepancy?

But I can't see the "var" directory, would it be hidden to me or just not existent?

Is that Open Base Directive changed in the "php.ini" file? Because I noticed on the FPA that it's in the "etc" directory, which I don't have access to neither on Plesk nor on FTP(FileZilla). It seems I'll have to contact the hosting provider for that.

Is there supposed to be both "htaccess.txt" and ".htaccess"? Because mine does have both, is that a problem?

Are you sure the "configuration.php" should be set to 444 ? The FPA shows Red text "Read-Only" with a Red outline when it's set to "444" ... it's Green and "Writable" when it's set to 644.

If you need to edit the file confifuration.php manually, change its permissions to 644 before editing and back to 444 after saving the changes.

Then it's weird that the FPA Shows "Read-Only" in Red with a Red outline under "CONFIG MODE | 444" if that's the necessary setting. As if it's something that needs attention.

Okay alright, it's orange, and thank you for letting me know the editing time limit. Also I just realized that I had to go into the "Site Modules" and change the "Position" for all of the modules, which still had the positions from the old Template that was automatically removed when I updated it to 4.4.9. That's obviously why my Joomla site was so vacant after the updates. Although the old links/bookmarks that I had saved for all or some of my articles still go to the 404 page. Is there any way to make it forward the old URLs to the new URLs for the articles? It looks like I'll have to change a hyperlink I had on one of the articles that went to one of my other Joomla articles.
