Open basedir is empty. Not possible to remove it. Other values changed.
Nevertheless the error persists when trying to update.

I suggest you take a backup, disable ALL third party extensions (not that many to do) and try again. The problem is in the interaction between the JavaScript in the update component and the server php. That is very difficult to debug. You could look in your server php error log to see if there is anything there.

The update in the test environment (with new backup from the web site online) worked just fine.
In the web site online it didn't... turning back the same error message.
BTW, Open base is off.

Perhaps! I used the same version as in the web site online, well, not exactly the same.
In the local test site I used PHP 8.1.6 and in the online site the PHP 8.1.11, the version numbers were given by the correspondent system.

I have just made an update on my local server with version 8.1.10 and it worked perfectly.
My server (online) has only the version 8.1.11!

Where exactly should I post that update fails with php 8.1.11? Not quite clear for me, sorry.

That usually happens when ftp layer is on. but the fpa reports it as n/a should it not show either '0' or '1' ?
Perhaps whatever causes the fpa to show not available is causing the issue?

I can't find any other error log in the Direct Admin of my hosting, they don't use cPanel, unfortunately.
