When it comes to protecting our devices, antivirus software is a must. However, I've been wondering if just having an antivirus solution is enough. Should we also be using dedicated anti-malware tools, or do modern antivirus programs cover both? What’s your take?

Most desktop Anti virus tools do not detect and locate malware and hacks in PHP, Image and JS files downloaded from a server

They have "some" detections of javascript based hacks that run in a browser, but that varies from anti-virus product to product.

You should not be assuming your desktop or server anti-virus check is going to locate all malware injected into a Joomla website... most of which is unique and never generated before randomly, and a lot that share the same PHP function names as genuine code written by genuine developers.

I have seen some hacks actually better coded than genuine code written by genuine developers haha.

Not all Joomla hacks are viruses. In fact, very very few are by definition, viruses.
