Auto-readmore?

Post by djcaptpln880 » Fri Dec 08, 2023 4:56 pm

Greetings

I am trying to auto-insert "Read more " to cut the text down to a limit for display in blog list view because by default its the full article and to cut it down manually each article you need to insert "read more"

I saw in this subject that Auto-readmore has a development particle on GIT

viewtopic.php?t=993696

https://github.com/conseilgouz/AutoReadMore-J4

Has anyone used this successfully and thoroughly tested?

If so, how to I install it?

Haven't tried it, download the zip file and install normally.

Thx for reply

Yes I tried downloading the zip file from the GIT but it gave a big error..

Here's the error:

Sorry, there was a problem we could not recover from.
The server returned a "500 - Whoops, looks like something went wrong."

Should I try downloading individual files and which ones into ZIP?

The 500 error suggests a php problem, perhaps it is not compatible with your J version.I haven't used it so I don't know.

Hi,
To know what is causing 500 error, enable debug mode in your Joomla Admin.

AutoReadMore works with Joomla 4.x & 5.x, PHP 8.0 to PHP 8.2.

Latest version (5.1.3) fixes a conflict with another extension (smartSlider).

Debug should tell if another conflict arises.

OK here's what I found:

I unzipped the file and went to this directory:

/AutoReadMore-master/extensions

I made a zip out of this directory:

en-GB_autoreadmore_language_pack

Joomla installed the extension and installed it with name
en-GB_autoreadmore_language_pack

but I don't see where to configure the extension? I went to plugins manager and did not find the extension to configure?

I also went to extensions manager and found the installed extension as above but nothing to configure NOT even in components?

Hi,
I don't understand.
If you download latest version (https://github.com/conseilgouz/AutoRead ... -5.1.3.zip ), you'll have a standard Joomla extension that you install like any other extension.
Then, you'll access its parameters in your admin via plugins, look for "Content - Auto Read More".

but how do I install it from the GIT page?
What file do I download and upload to Joomla install?
I tried downloading the GIT by clicking the download button but that file does not install?

What I found is that you downloaded Gruz's version (which is a Joomla! 3 compatible version).
As stated earlier, Joomla! 4.x/5.x compatible version is in my github space : https://github.com/conseilgouz/AutoReadMore-J4

Ok let's restart this :
1. download latest version : https://github.com/conseilgouz/AutoRead ... -5.1.3.zip
2. go to your Joomla admin, menu system, install, Extensions, select "upload package file" tab
3. drag&drop the file you just downloaded (should be named AutoReadMore-J4-5.1.3.zip in your download directory)

As I said, it's just like any Joomla extension.

Thanks for the help

However I chose to use manual readmore.. Too many extensions makes J bloated it seems
