Easyblog discontinued?
Hello,
i'm using Easyblog for my website for a long long time and i'm kind of stuck on it since i have so many posts. Until 2022 the stackideas team was offering serious customer support services with the issues being fixed within 24 hours but since the start of 2023, the support is really poor and the old support stuff appear to be innactive for 9 months from their forum. Also the EB updates on 2022 were released on regular basis, they released 9 version updates and this year 0.
I am not trying to defame the extension, it's just that the scenario of discontinuation of the extension gives me nightmares (fe migrating it's content).
I created this post here because they also changed their support forum setup and there are not any longer public posts.
Does anybody have informations about the future of the Easyblog extension and Stackideas?
Kind regards

You can join a Stackideas user group on Facebook and discuss this further with more insight info there. Do a search and you will find it. Seems they slowly dying and milk out the last subscription base unfortunately....

Re: Easyblog discontinued?
I think this company was one of the best in the Joomla! world, but looks like they sold out and didn't bother to tell their clients. It's rubbed a lot of people the wrong way.

Re: Easyblog discontinued?
So it seems that Stackideas was sold to another company
https://tslmedia.sg/tsl-acquisition-sof ... velopment/ and the new company is just earning from the subscriptions instead of working with the extensions support ane upgrade.
No information to the clients.
Now it's a good time for me to panic i guess. Unless there is a way to migrate from EB to Joomla content that I'm not aware of.

Re: Easyblog discontinued? Easysocial?
Stackideas has had an arrogant approach to their support functions. Software updates were also slow in coming to stretch out product software upgrades.
I was in Malaysia in Dec 2022 and met with Sam and Joyce Chew at their office in Kuala Lumpur. Mark Lee was in Singapore at the time. No mention of sale was made but I subsequently found out two months later the firm had been sold. Hence the lack of active updates or product development.
One should also keep in mind the speed of PHP and Joomla Development and releases in 2020 - 2023.
Mark Lee has a history of movement, and is now located in Singapore with the parent company - TSL Media Group.
You must keep in mind that they extract American dollars through Australia to a Malaysian company.

Re: Easyblog discontinued?
We’ve given it a go and everything’s looking good with Joomla 5.2 and PHP 8.2.
I'll update if I find any issues.

Re: Easyblog discontinued?
I'm having all kinds of issues now with StackIdeas products -- which all used to be top notch. Any problems seem to be handled by "moderators" who know next to nothing, instead of programmers who in the past would fix things quickly.
Prior to StackIdeas (6 years ago), I used JomSocial. But they look like they've hardly changed since then. The only other option seems to be Community Builder. They seem to be fairly active.
Are there any other "new kids in town" to consider to replace StackIdeas?

Re: Easyblog discontinued?
I think that some new 3pds have to fork some of these extensions to continue the work that previously was done to these extensions. It would be a waste to let them all die and be forgotten forever..

Re: Easyblog discontinued?
Has anyone tried to migrate from EasyBlog to RSBlog? Per the description RS has a tool to import posts from EasyBlog. (it also has a tool to then convert blog posts to articles...)thodorisgo wrote: ↑Mon Oct 02, 2023 2:46 pm Now it's a good time for me to panic i guess. Re: Easyblog discontinued?
Answering my own question. Just like I wrote in another other post here.
I did just install RSBlog and used its plugin to import a couple hundred posts from EasyBlog. Took less than fifteen minutes to install and get configured, and seconds to perform the import. It worked mostly well, importing the EasyBlog posts' content including text and images, author name linked to userID, creation date, and category. It did not appear to import the posts' cover images nor comments.
There is a batch option to export the posts from RSBlog to Joomla articles though I have not tried that yet.
Either RSBlog may be an option as it appears to work so far and costs 1/2 as much as EasyBlog, or it may be useful as a bridge to getting previous EasyBlog posts into Joomla articles.

Re: Easyblog discontinued?
Hi Guys, I have a few sites on joomla 4 with joomshaper templates and helix ultimate framework. I've had no issues with easyblog 6.0.10.
I was considering updating to joomla 5 and easyblog 6.0.11 but you guys seem to have had problems.
What template and template framework were you using when you had the issues?

I am using a multilingual Joomla 5.1 site with a K2 setup, but the issues we encountered were more related to URL management rather than templates or frameworks. No major template or framework issues arose during the upgrade.

We've received an encouraging indication that they are still with us. Let's remain optimistic that their condition continues to improve
It's encouraging to see signs of activity from the development team. They've recently announced an update for ED, which demonstrates they're still actively working on the project. I'm hopeful this indicates improvements are on the way.
