Issue installing JomSocial

Hello,

I need help with my website. I purchased a copy of jomsocial approx. 5 years ago. At the time I never went ahead with the site.

Recently i sent a copy of that software to my web designer to install on a website for me. unfortunately, there are issues with it regarding the install.

when i go my sub domain web page I see a page with Cassiopeia as the heading. (see attachment) I should be seeing the jomsocial demo site surely?

The admin page looks like this supplied with a login and password. I’m guessing that is, ok? (see attachment)
I mentioned the instal issue (Cassiopeia) to my web designer and he came back with this, asking me for my login details.

I will do it.

JomSocial is a paid thrid party extension. If you downloaded a copy five years ago, it was most likely compatible with Joomla 3 and not Joomla 4. Joomla 4 was launched in August 2021. Paid extensions usually require annual subscriptions before you can get updates.

Additionally the screenshots provided look like those typical of a default Joomla installation, before any content has been added. JomSocial is an extension for social networking, not a template.

If you wanted JomSocial (assume when successfully installed) you'd create or point the "Home" menu item to the JomSocial component (the options would be in the New Menu Item in the back end, and you create a menu item like you would to an article, but you would choose one of the JomSocial "views" (if that's what you call it). Then your site would load the "home" page as the JomSocial page when you first browse to the site, or click "Home".

The JomSocial component would still load using the Cassiopeia template unless you installed a different template and set it as default in the Template Manager.

v4.9.5 on Jomsocial website is Joomla 5 compatible also - I would be looking to Joomla 5 in the short term, as Joomla 4's support will end in September 2025.

thank you for the replies given to my first posting. especially the detailed reply from AMurray.

I have sent a copy of AMurray's reply to my web designer and he has come back to me with this reply -

please send me JomSocial extension .

i said to him that i already sent the jomsocial script / extension and he sent me a screenshot of the zip folder i sent him to install - see attached image - this is what i was sent when i purchased jomsocial.

his response was to say -

yes,these have many extension but not a JomSocial ?

what should i do. maybe i should hire someone who is familiar with jomsocial /joomla.
Can anyone recommend someone ?

ideally would like my current designer to finish the job as he has already started it.

You need to go to the Jomsocial site and purchase a subscription to the latest version of Jomsocial.

The files you sent your designer are useless. You need the entire Jomsocial package to continue - the latest version.
