Looking for component to manage subscribed users with Paypal interface

Post by jab71 » Wed Feb 14, 2024 2:11 am

I am looking for a component that is compatible with Joomla 4 (or Joomla 5, it doesn't really matter) that does the following things:
  1. Allows users to "self-register" (create new accounts). Creation of a new account must involve a payment to be processed via Paypal.
  2. Upon creation of a new account, the newly-created user record will be automatically be assigned an ACL identifier (e.g. Subscribed) in addition to the Registered user identifier in order to allow the new account to carry out certain transactions (e.g. ask questions).
  3. The user record created by this extension will remain a Registered user but the additional ACL identifier (referred to in point 2 above) will automatically lapse after a certain amount of time and the user will not be able to carry out certain transactions unless they pay an additional amount; in effect, re-subscribe without need to create a new account.
  4. The period for which a user account is Subscribed can be adjusted by the site administrator: for example, one week or one month. (Ideally, there could be more than one subscription plan that users can purchase.)
  5. I don't care if such an extension costs money or is free as long as it works.
  6. I am only interested in suggestions (and/or recommendations) from other forum users who have used the component that I desire. Please do not write "Search the Joomla Extensions Directory" or "Have you tried xyz?" If people have not used a subscription plan extension—like the one I am aksing about—on a Joomla 4 (or 5) website I am not interested.

Joomdonation’s Membership Pro does all this and more. We’ve been using it for years and it works well and has excellent support.

Thank you for the quick response. I've not dived deep into this Membership Pro extension but it has always had the appearance of doing what I require. The component has good reviews (actually, the reviews are so effusive as to sound too good to be true) which is encouraging. The cost (just under USD 40.00) is not prohibitive although I do not expect to recover my outlay within the first two years of use. :laugh:

I would love to know if an one else (any one other person, that is) has used this extension.

Let's leave this topic open and I can look at other responses. Thanks again for your quick response. :)

My suggestion is PayPlans, it is quite flexible for me;

You can try the front and backend demo here;

Thanks, Maradona. I looked at the Payplans component some time ago but I felt that (at nearly USD 100.00 for six months' access to updates) this was a considerable cost. Perhaps, for websites that are turning over many hundreds of dollars per month in trade, this may be useful for some people.

One of the main reasons I'm looking for a subscription package is to put a pay wall in front of the website to deter would-be time-wasters/spam merchants and such. The best way to guarantee that people don't waste my time by creating an account, when all they do is drain my web server of bandwidth, is to make people pay a few dollars to access some site content. My websites generate little traffic (apart from search bots) and I'm unlikely to receive more than $40 over two years, I don't think that spending $100 is justifies the outlay.

So, while Payplans may be quite flexible for you, I guess you're earning more than $100 every six months to justify the expense. Thanks but no thanks.

I use Joomdonation’s Membership Pro on a site to sell a Joomla extension. IMHO it's the best subscription extension available at the moment.

How I use: Everybody can sign-up and become a registered user.
After payment, a user will also be added to a new "customer" group.
Users in that group can download the extension.
When the subscription almost expires they get a email notification to renew their subscription with a discount. When the subscription is not renewed and expires, the user is removed from that "customer" group but stays in the "registered" group.

I use another extension for the downloads. But that extension makes use of Joomla's Access Control List system with the user groups. And those users/user groups are managed via Membership Pro.

Furthermore Joomdonation’s support is good. They are friendly and fast. And the developer is active in the Joomla community.

Thank you, Peter. Membership Pro is beginning to appear to be what I'm looking for. :)
