ALL menu items URL point to the root path
Hi,
My development local site is working fine after migrating from 3.5 to 4.2 but when I upload it (I'm using Akeeba) to the website all menu items show the same URL that is the the root webpage. I already reviewed my PHP configuration (moved from 7.4 to 8.1) , adjusted the top .htaccess to reflect the correct PHP version , set RewriteBase to / , and checked the SEO values, but I still I'm not able to figure out the issue. No errors are shown even when I turn on Server Error Reporting to Maximum.
Is anybody experience the same issue? I'm pretty sure that is a configuration issue but after 2 weeks I'm running out of ideas.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: ALL menu items URL point to the root path
Welcome to Joomla forum!
Do the menu items work correctly when you disable .htaccess (rename it to something else)
and switch OFF the SEF (in your configuration.php) totally?

Re: ALL menu items URL point to the root path
Thanks pe7er for your response.
I will try what you suggested and share the result. Which .htaccess do I need to rename? All of them? There is one on the root folder (above html_public), another one on html_public also.
The one on the root folder , only sets the PHP version. The one on html_public is a copy of htaccess.txt.
Can I switch SET to OFF in the backend also?
I notice another one on administrator , but I guess is working fine because if I log into the backend there is no issues.

Re: ALL menu items URL point to the root path
Based on the information you provided, it's possible that the issue is related to the website's menu configuration or the server's rewrite rules. Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot the problem:
1. Make sure that the menu items are correctly configured with the appropriate URLs. Double-check that the URLs are correct and point to the intended pages.
2. Check the server's rewrite rules
3. Check for conflicts
4. Review the PHP error logs
5. Seek help from the website's developer or hosting provider
I hope this helps!

Re: ALL menu items URL point to the root path
I already did all the recommendation and menu still not working. I can update the production website due this issue with my development clone.
I also ran the Forum Post Assistant and shows 100% certainty that Joomla will run without issues. This is the output of the assistance:
-----------------------------------
This was run with PHP 7.4.33 , but same resulting with PHP 8.0 or 8.1.
Any internal link shows only the root directory on the FrontEnd . BackEnd (administrator) works fine , but it is not using rerouting. So I know the issue is with the routing.
I think Joomla is corrupted but I can't understand why. My local dev environment works fine.

Re: ALL menu items URL point to the root path
What happens when you use a non-sef link take from the menu, like this:
index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=14
What happens when you hover over a link? Does the browser show what you expect?

Re: ALL menu items URL point to the root path
Hovering over any link shows the root path . Of course, except the external links that have no problems. As I mentioned , the backEnd is working fine, shows the suffix but I know routing is not used there.
All the "index.php......" sufix is missing when I over the menu options. Including the selecting any language in the language switcher. It seems that the routing is not working at the time of generating the page, but I can find any error message even when I select the maximum reporting.
The funny thing is that my local dev environment is working. I even downloaded the production environment, applied the restore and it works locally!
Thanks for taking a look at this.

Re: ALL menu items URL point to the root path
Search the Forum for Falang
Could the problem be related to language selection or menu settings?
Working locally but not remotely suggest a difference in server environment. Is mod_rewrite enabled?

Re: ALL menu items URL point to the root path
This is the only thread where Falang is mentioned. I already contact them but they said the issue is not Falang related.
I checked the .htaccess at the public_html folder and the "RewriteEngine On" directive is there for the actual version 3.6.5 and also in my local dev environment.
I agreed that this issue seems related with the configuration. I already checked that after doing the restore to 4.3.1 but I will try it again just to double check. I just need to test it on a time interval where I do not affect users.
There is any test that I can run to confirm that Rewrite is running on my hosting server? I remember reading some hosting documentation about been enable since I'm running in a shared server.
FPA shows on Joomla Instance: SEF ReWrite: true ... is this the same as Rewrite on PHP/Apache?

Look in System / System Information / PHP Information tab and search for mod_rewrite.
It is present in mine and my FPA report but not in yours. In fact, some sections seem to be missing from your report.
Also look in the PHP Settings tab. Anything amiss?

Upgrade to the htaccess.txt file that comes with J4.

Re: ALL menu items URL point to the root path
I already chatted with my hosting provider support team and they confirmed that mod_rewrite is enable .
I will update my FPA tool because it does show the mod_rewrite status. But on my local environment (4.3.1) Joomla PHP Information shows the mod_rewrite module "loaded" .
I will again restore the update on the website and specifically verify the status of the module as well as that the .htaccess of J4! is present.
Thanks everybody for your help. I will keep working on this issue and let you know the results.

Re: ALL menu items URL point to the root path
Hi,
An update on this issue. I double checked and replaced .htaccess with the same file for J4. Issue persisted.
Finally, I disabled Falang and the website started working with the original language. It seems that Falang touches the routing process and creates the issue on the Prod website. Local website still works fine. So, for the moment I will keep only the original language active.
I already tried to find a forum to report the issue on the Falang website but there is none support available. It is a pity. So, I will uninstall the plugin and the reinstall it to see if the issue goes away. I'm really thinking going with the multi-language support provided by Joomla and avoid third party conflicts.
Thanks everybody for your suggestions.

Re: ALL menu items URL point to the root path
Issue was resolved after recycling (remove-reinstall) Joomla.
Thanks everyone for your input. I learn a lot from your comments.
