Search Console problems - Indexing issues - Dj-Classifieds

Post by Mosy1373 » Sun Dec 22, 2024 9:59 pm

Hi Guys,

I’m facing a frustrating issue with my website’s visibility on Google and I was hoping to get some advice or solutions.

Here’s the problem: Google is not consistently showing or indexing the links from my website. The strange part is that some of the pages do appear on the first page for 1 or 2 days, but then they disappear completely. This is happening repeatedly, and I’m not sure what to do.

A bit about my website:
It’s a platform built on the DJ-Classifieds extension for Joomla (currently using Joomla 4.4.9). Users post ads with their contact details, so it’s possible that there are duplicate ads with similar names but different URLs.

In addition, when I checked my Google Search Console, it shows all the necessary errors, which is obviously not ideal. I have also tried searching Google for any possible solutions to fix this, and I’ve already gone through several common troubleshooting steps, including:

Checking canonical tags to ensure they’re correctly set.
Investigating duplicate content and trying to eliminate it.
Ensuring that SEF URLs are properly configured.
But despite all this, the issue persists.

Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas for solving this issue? Is there a particular setting in DJ-Classifieds or Joomla that I might have missed? Or is there something specific I should be looking for in the Search Console errors?

I would really appreciate any help or advice on this – it’s been a bit of a headache. Thanks in advance!

Hi,

Perhaps you could share the link to your website here. This way, we can get a complete picture of your site, and your issue might be resolved more quickly.

Kind regards,

Ron

Dear Rondeb,
thanks,
two things:
1. as I was searching in other search engines (Bing- Yahoo) my pages are visible. but not in google
2. I have changed some some parts of the website that's why You can see the 404 in past few week (it is not the main problem anymore)((at least I suppose))

Hi

Plenty of things to say, here are the main comments:

1 - Most of the items in this list are not problems and don't need fixing.

- "Excluded by noindex": you excluded some pages voluntarily (by adding a noindex tag), and they are just telling you that.
- Not found (404): you changed some pages, so the old pages are 404 and therefore not indexed. Unless these 404s are mistakes, then all is well and you don't need to do anything, 404s are good and exactly what you should have
- "alternate with proper canonical": Same. You have some pages with a canonical tag pointing to other pages, so Google is considering the "other pages" and not the ones with the canonical tags. All is as expected, nothing to do (unless these canonical tags are mistakes)
- Page with redirect": Same as canonical. You have pages that redirect to other pages. Google is considering the redirect targets and does not index the original pages. All is as expected, nothing to do (unless these redirects are a mistake)
- "Duplicate with user-selected canonical": they found duplicate, but you have added canonical tags, so they don't use the duplicates and instead look at the canonical target. No problem here, unless your canonical tags are wrong
- "Duplicate, Google chose a different canonical": They found duplicate, you added a canonical, but they disagree with you with what the canonical should be. These may be an issue, or not. Likely, Google is right and your canonicals on these pages are wrong

2 - The issues:

- "Discovered - currently not indexed": they found some links to new (to them) pages on your site, either on other websites, or in your sitemap or just on some other pages of your site that they already know. And they have not yet processed them, not even crawled them. This is usually because their crawling system thinks these pages are not going to be very good and it's not worth spending time on them. Not much you can do about it, except having links to them from other pages to make them look better, give them more authority.
But you have to ask yourself first if these pages have value. Maybe Google is right in not wanting to spend time on them. If so, you may be better off noindexing them

- Crawled - currently not indexed: the bad part: they saw these pages, they crawled and analyzed them, but they decided they do not want them in their index. They consider the pages don't have enough value and are not worth proposing in their search results. That's the tough one.

Two things to do:

a - Look at these pages and decide whether the pages are indeed valuable and worth fighting for.
b - If the pages have value, then it's still going to be difficult to make them change their mind. Change the pages, add more (valuable, to the visitors) content. Add links from other pages. Add more content that can link to these pages.

3 - "Verification failed": this likely happens because while you may have changed things, Google thinks differently. For instance, if you have removed pages, then they are still 404s. If you have canonicals on some pages, they these pages are still not going to be indexed, because they have canonicals. And like I said above, most things don't need fixing anyway.

4 - Notes on the site

- you have a bug in your Google Tag manager integration, this causes a javascript fatal error on all pages
- you have an issue with a "magnific.js" and "magnific.css" scripts that are not working on most pages
