Will URL Rewriting cause existing article links to break?

Post by kircubbin123 » Wed Jul 05, 2023 11:26 am

Apologies if this is a very basic query.

I have just upgraded to J4 and am considering enabling URL Rewriting. I have always used
Search Engine Friendly URLs.

I have a large text-heavy site with lots of internal links to other pages. If I enable URL Rewriting will this mean that al the internal links will break and I will have to redo them and link to the new URLs?

Thank you for considering this basic question.

No, URLs with index.php will continue to work. But search engines may start complaining about duplicate URLs and your old URLs may lose rankings.

Yes, you need to add a custom redirect. The system is not handling this itself.
