Do you know that it doesn’t?

Have you tried it to see what happens?

Hi JAVesey,
I tested one of my Joomla sites locally with PHP 8.3 and everything works perfectly.
The test environment was laragon on which I added PHP 8.3.
If it works locally, it will definitely work online, but beware of third party components that may cause problems.

PHP 8.2 is good for active support until Dec 2024, and security support until Dec 2025.

I don't know if here is the right place to ask, but since this discussion is about Php versions, I'm hoping you can answer this.

MySQLI is no longer supported in Php 8.2
In order to updated to Php 8.2, one needs to "add" the option for mysqli or the J5 site returns a 500 error - front end and back end.

Is there an update (soon?) that will be changing J5 to work with mysqlnd since that's the currently preferred driver?

I ran into the 500 error on 2 platforms I updated this last week and had to go in to cPanel to enable mysqli.

That's the case since php 8.0

Mysqli has been around since php 4.1

You can use mysqli, pdo_mysql or mysqlnd. The php Configuration must have the driver loaded. Then they will be selectable in the Joomla Installer.

I'm guessing you mean during installation you can select the different configuration. But if a site is already established, for those of us who haven't been watching how mysqli is not a good option when installing, I can't switch to mysqlnd on established sites.

For some reason, I updated my own site to J5 last week and realized I had to enable mysqli in the Php options. But when I looked today, I see my Php is using mysqlnd and mysqli is now disabled.
I'm guessing that was something my hosting support did when I mentioned in a ticket that mysqli is no longer enabled by default...which is when I found that it's no longer supported.

All of this is to say, my site is switched over, apparently. I can only assume that my host made the switch.
I guess asking the host if they can make the switch is the right answer for established sites?

I just installed J5.0.3 on wamp php 8.2.3 mysqli. It seemed too run for ever. But When I restarted wamp the Joomla completion page appeared. Checking extensions etc doesn't connect. Installed sample data and it runs.

Same with pdo but sample data doesn't work

Your host should have a cpanel where php extensions can be enabled.

The Database Connector can be changed in Global Configuration.
