Joomla Articles Ordering

Hello,

I'm having trouble with Joomla's native content component for ordering articles. The manual ordering feature, which uses draggable.js for drag-and-drop, is only available for specific categories. I need to manually order articles on a main category page that displays multiple subcategories, but I can't mix articles from different subcategories between each other. They are grouped. This limitation is quite confusing.

Can anyone suggest the solution?

You can only use the drag&drop for ordering of articles within the same category.

The Administrator Articles list does allow selection of a Category and the list includes all sub-categories and can be ordered on one of many different columns - title for example. It seems strange that such a list is not available for the Site frontend. I wonder why...
