Upgrading to Joomla 5

Post by Armorbeast » Fri Sep 13, 2024 11:02 pm

Ok, we've been operating with Joomla 3 for a while now but everything is changing (evolving) with our webhost and the software so we're making the leap to J5. Our website is member-based and oriented for member participation. It's an art site so we need a gallery that recognizes each member and has their name tagged to their image posts so we know who shared what when people view to comment. We also need some sort of portal to promote sponsors and affiliates (like Joomla for example). We have decided to stick with Kunena as a forum and Ignite Gallery has been our go to but we really need something that tags who posted the image and allows us to search for the member-submitted images if we need to.

Any suggestions of what to search for that might provide more usability for the members on our site as we want them to post and be identified for their contributions moreso than just us team members. And yes, I'm kinda being vague here because I'm just looking for suggestions and input from some of you who have already made that leap forward and upgraded. What exactly is available that we might use for what we need?

Ignite gallery does the image tagging thing.... (?).

First up you need to update from 3.10.12 to Joomla 4 before you can migrate to Joomla 5.
https://docs.joomla.org/Joomla_3.x_to_4 ... _Migration

then J4.x to J5.x https://docs.joomla.org/Joomla_4.4.x_to ... ep_by_Step

Kunena and Ignite work on J3 through J5, so make sure you have the latest available versions for J3 so the migration will be smoother. The update precheck will go through extensions and advise any that might be a potential problem.

For a more "member" oriented website perhaps Community Builder is a possibility?
https://extensions.joomla.org/extension ... y-builder/ (perhaps the CB user profiles can then be integrated with Ignite gallery, etc).

Suggest reviewing the JED for more: https://extensions.joomla.org

Thanks. I passed your suggestions on to our programmer. I didn't get notification of a reply so I apologize for the late response.

You can fix this by going to your User Control Panel, then select Board preferences - Edit notification options.

Thanks. I'm used to those being set to notify me automatically but I've got them set now.
