Joomla 5 must have Captcha V3 plugin
Hello joomla lovers,
I had the need to write this article because I really don't understand the reason that Joomla developers decided to remove ReCAPTCHA plugin from the joomla 5?
Supposedly joomla go forward this is a step back... it's a shame that Joomla 5 platform doesn't have out of the box at list CAPTCHA V3
I am aware that Sharky made a reCAPTCHA v3 and I am grateful but unfortunately it doesn't work at least on my site
Thanks for reading

Re: Joomla 5 MUST HAVE CAPTCHA V3 Plugin
Google ReCaptcha got removed to remove dependencies to external services.
It was decided that such functionality would fit better in 3rd party plugins.
There are various free and paid Captcha plugins available,
see https://extensions.joomla.org/tags/captcha/

I don’t agree at all, not least because it is/was not GDPR-compliant and there are plenty of other alternatives available. Many are better, too.
I removed the Invisible reCaptcha plugin (it was there due to being used on my J3 site and stayed during the J3 —> J4 —> J5 migrations/upgrades) from my site recently and replaced it with an alternative. I don’t regret this for one minute.
I agree with Peter. Better to give users a choice and make a positive decision about what they want.

It would be interesting to know what % of sites actually have registered users.

I mostly use a Captcha plugin to protect contact forms against spam bots.

All Captcha methods that don't use an external service for getting the puzzles that need to be solved.

Re: Joomla 5 must have Captcha V3 plugin
Spam bots have been able to solve mathematical captchas for a long time. It is the same with crossed out and garbled characters. I know from practice.
Lately, even Google captcha is not immune to spam bots.
That's why I'm asking for a concrete solution and not arguing about the capabilities of spam bots.

Re: Joomla 5 must have Captcha V3 plugin
There is no concrete solution. and yes you were 'arguing about the capabilities of spam bots'
You just need to research and pick what is best for you.
Bottom line
There is no real definitive answer just one that suits you best.
